W.S. Van Dyke captured the spirit with this late silent movie (with soundtrack). Focusing on on the idyll of simple native life and the evil hypocrisy of Christianity. Ramon Novarro was as charming as can be and Dorothy King was a good match for him. The one that stole the show was Donald Crisp as the villain. You could see him mirroring his performance as the abusive father figure in Broken Blossoms (1919). His brutal face and body language says it all. So a very charming and captivating movie.
