This mostly improvised movie is a cult classic with lovely acting, some of the funniest slapstick scenes in movie history and a cool score as well. The last half an hour is a bit too messy for my taste, getting way too chaotic to enjoy.

Extremely funny stuff from Peter Sellers, it's interesting to see where Rowan Atkinson clearly got most of his "Mr Bean" ideas from.

Impossibly full of hilarious gags and jokes, it moves tirelessly from one great moment of chaos to the next. Helming an excellent cast of very memorable characters is the absolutely fantastic Sellers: he has perfect comic timing and uses his incredible physical comedy for characterization, the dialogue being secondary. Themes such as class conflict and abuse of power in Hollywood add depth; the outsider Hrundi wreaking havoc with his childlike, affable enthusiasm is a rebellious sight to behold.

Edwards goes full on Tati-esque scenes and characters, and the results are hits and misses. Sellers is terrific though.

Peter Sellers shines brighter than nearly anyone in comedic history proving that you don't necessarily need words to tell a story. It get stupid in the end but the first hour is gold.

It has some of the funniest slapstick gags ever recorded to film (like the world's funniest toilet-paper roll). I love the first two-thirds, awkwardness and all, until the 'daughter' comes in with her friends and elephant to crash the party: and the focus turned away from Sellers and more towards the eternally groovy.

For a film that is mostly improvised it sure did feel staged, especially the intro which was obviously there so they could set up for this zany party you guys. Most of the jokes are horrible but one or two are pretty funny. Gets progressively worse and many of the situations had incredibly obvious and easy solutions, just walk out of the bathroom next time dumbass. Drunk waiter was stupid too. Also, birdie num num was the worst joke in the film

This is not everyone's cup of tea as a comedy and by the end it seems to have dragged itself to a shoddy, messy finale. For me, it's just a huge gigglefest at Peter Seller's antics.

There seems to be no good reason for Sellers' character to be Indian and thus it ('brown face') is in bad taste. But putting that aside (I can only do this as I don't identify as Indian), this is a wonderful film. A highly satisfying combination of the restaurant party from 'Play Time', the house party from 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' and the final party from 'La Dolce Vita'. The pacing, humour and pathos are near-perfect. The world needs good guys like Hrundi, they bring the best out of people.

I love it. I was pleasantly surprised to discover it's very much like a Tati film, but with Peter Sellers doing what he does best. It escalates into madness by the end, as many parties do.

True classic, maybe Peter Seller's best, after Dr Strangelove, of course. Love the Gunga Din bit at the beginning! Some of the jokes are really old, but still everything works beautifully.

Very broad, to put it mildly, and it stays afloat mainly on Sellers' charm. But he's a very charming dude, so it was enjoyable enough. It really isn't very good, though, YMMV.

There's some pretty terrible moments, some inconsistent characterisation (he's a social bafoon, yet he talks smoothly with hot women!?), and the brown-face is just an unnecessary embarrassment. Despite this, it's still a fairly funny movie with quite a lot of brilliantly funny slapstick comedy, some amusing naivety from the main man ("Birdie num-num"), and some funny dialogue.Even with its racial insensitivity, it's still loads less offensive and much funnier than most mainstream comedy nowadays

Groovy with an awesome elephant which must've been rather shook with all the shenanigans they've been pulling. I wonder, does he still live? Sellers is great and there's something with acting of all the others that feels like they've been trying to act just a bit too hard. A classic that must be seen. Edwards watched too much Tati and Atkinson watched too much The Party. Loved it how it was seen as non-problematic with brown face. Imagine it today, oh fun times indeed!

Like a third-rate Jacques Tati movie, with a slew of complicated slapstick set-ups that usually come across as lifeless and humorless, and watching Hrundi's endless faux-pas can become surprisingly uncomfortable, but Sellers' performance is warm enough to overlook that, and the movie's rollicking 60s atmosphere is a definite bonus.

A funny film that looks great. Is it the best looking comedy film of all-time? I haven't thought of that statement beyond what I wrote, so I am not actually looking for an answer. Hm, what else is there to say about this? Feels like I am missing something -- something noteworthy about this film that hasn't aged particularly well. Hmm. Oh yeah! Can you believe that Hollywood producer trying to use his power to have sex with a woman?

This is okay. The best bits are those without any dialogue relying on Sellers trying to fix a deteriorating situation. There's a decent amount of big laughs, but after the riotous bathroom sequence the humor peters out and it becomes a long wait for the film to wrap up.

Okay, so we got Peter Sellers in brown face playing ‘a buffoon’ - immediately we expect maybe a racist sort of stereotype, but he’s sweet; it’s actually wholesome & painfully relatable (from an autistic foreigner POV, at least, it resonated). A brutal cringefest of the social awkwardness that comes with being out of one’s element & a little nervous. You really feel for him. It’s agonizing. My spouse & I were squealing & biting our knuckles the whole way through. The ending was my favorite.

Blake Edwards reaches new depths of awfulness. One of those unbearable "comedies" which are based on one horribly awkward situation after another. If I'm saying "fucking hell, just get your goddamn shoe already" to the television, I'm not having a good time. It becomes even worse when the party gets WILD AND CRAZY. Oh haha the servant is getting drunk and woo there's an elephant and hoo boy there's foam everywhere! Such a WILD PARTY that it actually drove that stuffy old lady INSANE!!!

There is a lot of good, fun physical comedy in this film. The movie does not have a huge plot but it is still very entertaining. Peter Sellers plays the main character as a very sweet and clumsy man. The movie is dated but still fun. Overall I would recommend this comedy.

I'm not totally comfortable with the brownface act, but I can partially forgive it in the case of Sellers, since adapting radically different physical guises was kind of his thing. Some of the funniest sight gags since the silent era; the final act drags the film down a bit, but it's kind of fun in a campy way.

If you can get past Sellers playing an Indian (for no apparent reason), this is a damn good comedy. Maybe it's just the score, but it felt very much like Edwards was inspired by Tati's Mr. Hulot movies--Play Time had been released the previous year--though I actually preferred this due to the clearer narrative. In addition to a good Sellers, Denny Miller is absolutely delightful as the larger than life movie star. The climax is absurdity at its best, with some unforgettable images.

Really problematic (insanely racist and tone-deaf and, like that wasn't enough, there's also animal abuse). Btw, it's not like the score is because of all that alone, i just didn't think it was a good film. I guess i don't quite get boomer humor. (i don't think it's bad tho, just not appealing to me and, well, many things were just really uncool, so). Pd: yes i understand it's from 1968, whatevs.
