There were some mildly funny moments. But hey, one can take just a certain amount of slapstick, before it becomes repetitive.

Decidedly a lesser Chaplin, but there's still a few laughs to be found.

Started off well enough for a slapstick short then totally lost steam.

The most memorable scenes: balancing with stairs and examining the clock. Constant fight with his fellow worker was through the shortie.

There are a few really funny bits in this but there's also a lot of bits that flop.

a couple good gags, but they're generally overused and just not good enough.

Even a 20-minute short can become repetitive

A so-so hodgepodge of comic material without much tying it all together. The ladder routine and the ending to the clock routine are very nice. Not bad, but a little long and aimless.

Pretty bad.. Except for a brief sequence of less than a minute with The Girl - which foreshadows classic Chaplin stuff - it's just repetitive and tame "fighting" en masse

As others have written, this short has two highly-entertaining moments: the ladder scene and the alarm clock scene. Much of the rest feels like filler.

Charlie Chaplin works at a pawnshop and he's a terrible employee. He constantly fights with fellow employee John Rand, goofs off and destroys customers' property. Chaplin directed this short feature which is essentially a collection of assorted gags in this setting, but there is some really inventive and dangerous-looking physical comedy. Edna Purviance plays the pawnbroker's daughter.

A middling Chaplin short. Charlie performs some nice gags with a ladder, and then later an alarm clock, but overall the film seems little more than a pastiche of gags. Fun to be sure, but not outstanding.
