The People We Hate at the Wedding

The People We Hate at the Wedding is schlock, albeit elevated by Bell, Janney & Platt. It's a film that is simultaneously terribly written (the clichés, the portrayal of gay men, the portrayal of the English) yet contains moments that are genuinely well-written & funny. Addai-Robinson's attempt at posh feels forced & sounds obnoxious, but it echoes the rest of the characters' behaviour. It's a fun, silly RomCom about family, nothing more.

Not so great

While the film has its moments, ultimately it falls short of its potential. The cast tries their best, but the weak script and uninspired direction make for a mostly banal and forgettable experience. It's not terrible, but it's not particularly memorable either.
