The Perfect Human

It's simple. The perfect man and woman are in a boundless white "room," which is really just a white screen. They are treated like they are in a zoo, with the narrating explaining what a human is. "This is an eye." What this movie does really well is make you question the entire idea of a perfect human and whether our whole model for it is downright ridiculous. Great film and I can see why Lars Von Trier loves it.

the experience-less modern mankind

A very amusing dig at human conventions and rituals. The guy's dancing is absolutely hilarious. Also, hey a beautiful woman in a bra smoking a cigar.

An almost zoological study of two "perfect humans", done with trademark Scandinavian dry wit. It raises a lot of intriguing questions (are these "perfect" humans, or "perfectly human"?) and has a lot of enigmatic flair for such a short piece. I was struck by the immediacy of it: the stark white background, the extreme close-ups, and the heavy emphasis on words like "here", "this" and "now". Cool stuff.

Confrontational silliness. It always weirds me out to see stuff from this era with a "perfect man" - like Number 12 Looks Just Like You - because he's always such a dumpy looking dweeb paired with a gorgeous woman.

It's a very cool concept, and the deadpan style works very well for the first half. After that I felt it began to peter out and ended with a whimper instead of a bang.

Charming and cool.

The Perfect Human wonders: "Why is fortune so capricious? Why is joy so quickly gone? Why did you leave me? Why are you gone?" Because you've a face like a bulldog licking p**s off a nettle. Oh, and you didn't offer her any spuds ya miserable b**tard. But you dance like a champion so chin up!

Perfect Human is deadly boring.

This is pretentious as hell, which is the exact right amount of pretension for me.

The poetic aspects really don't affect me, but Leths speak is just so funny, don't know if it's really intentional.
