The Perfect Man

Locklear plays a total psychopath who packs up and leaves town every time she breaks up with a guy. She's on a cross-country tour of America, sampling the gentlemen in each metropolis. How she expects to find the perfect man by giving up on an entire city-worth of people over one guy is anybody's guess -- but that's why she needs the secret help of her meddling teenage daughter! On another note, that little girl is hideous. There's no way she popped out of Heather Locklear.

So the basis of this movie is that the daughter (Duffy) decides to play the secret boyfriend of her mom. She talks like a man over the phone and instant messages her, and she also does a couple other things that she could have been arrested for. Its a hoot. In a side story the youngest kid is trying to win a spelling bee and they sadly never conclude if she does or doesn't, which hurt the score. Caroline Rhea is in this too, which is not a good thing.

At the time of writing this, it was only few hours ago I had never heard of this film, yet it was forced upon me. It is now etched into my memories like a never ending nightmare of shit that haunts my every waking hour. Watching this will make you a dumber person... I know I've dropped a few IQ points since seeing it.

As a love story (or stories), "The Perfect Man" isn't particularly romantic. As a comedy, only the very occasional joke or circumstance raises to the level of amusement. And as a mother-daughter relationship drama, the film mucks up its potential by remaining negligently developed. It all adds up to just enough to possibly please die-hard fans of Duff and Locklear, but even some of them will probably have to admit they've seen it all before, and done with a whole lot more energy and sparkle.

Preposterous and predictable, The Perfect Man manages few laughs with its poorly paced sitcom script, cookie-cutter characters and contrived plotting.
