I like to believe that if I made videos to accompany every Criticker mini-review I ever wrote, they could be half as entertaining as the Phantom Menace Review...though hopefully without implicating me in the murder of that lady who used to live next to me but then went on an extended vacation to Europe from which she has yet to return but really there's nothing to worry about because she's probably just still backpacking through Belgium.

"Star Wars: The Phantom Menace was the most disappointing thing since my son. I mean how much more could you possibly fuck up the entire back story to Star Wars? And while my son eventually hanged himself in the bathroom at a gas station, the unfortunate reality of the Star Wars prequels is that they'll be around...forever. They will never go away. They can never be undone." Pretty sure your score of this directly correlates to how funny you found this statement. (It's top tier funny btw)

Hahaha, really? This got added to the database? Well I surely do have a review to give you of this review. It's just down in my basement. If you go down there with me I'll show you.

Groundbreaking blend of long-form film criticism and comedy. What's wrong with your faaaaaaace?

For my money, a watershed moment on the platform (but hell, I've never paid for YouTube). It has all the self-righteousness of the site, while adding the now-common YouTube tropes like meta-irony and critics and serial killers. I am pretty certain for total view time, I've spent more minutes watching this than The actual Phantom Menace. Who wants a pizza roll?

I didn't even think to look for this on Criticker, though I take it more seriously than the movie it reviews.

The second greatest analysis of film ever produced, only bested by Stoklasa's later review of Revenge of the Sith. Want a pizza roll?

RedLetterMedia is my favorite YouTube channel. I've watched this review more than I've watched The Phantom Menace itself. It's both hilarious and incredibly insightful, and remains the best critical review of Star Wars to date. And I'd encourage fans to not stop here. Watch the rest of the Plinkett reviews, and then watch the Best of the Worst series, and the Half in the Bag series, and even the Re:View series. All RLM content is just fucking gold.

Wasn't really a fan of the schtick, but it was certainly original. Some of the analysis is just fantastic, though. The part where he asks people to describe the characters from the original and then asks them to describe the characters from TPM is hilarious. It's also great to see the clips of Lucas talking about how effects are only a tool to serve story. And the clips of Lucas and other execs seeing how terrible the movie is.

What is great about this review is not just what is said but how it is said. By cloaking legitimate criticism in the over-the-top fan persona, this review becomes both a commentary on the film itself and a critique of fan culture. It is also damn entertaining and almost single-handedly spawned the entire subculture of long-form YouTube criticism.

Never before has a movie been torn to pieces so entertainingly. The parts outside the actual review are by far the worst bits.

The godfather of nerd-splaining is still a high water mark for YouTube media. You'll be hard pressed to find a better combination of comedy and critical analysis.

A hilarious and personal outburst of sharp analysis, ridiculously passioned nerd-rage and cynical comedy. Well edited too.

It is worth sitting through the awful star wars prequels just to watch this, and that is saying a lot.

A friend showed me these hoping I could relate since I don't like the Star Wars series. The skits/murder & rape references are an awful consequence of 'edgy' 2000s humor, so I can ignore them. The review itself successfully points out how incompetent George Lucas was when making these films, but the critique is not all that interesting.

Part 1 is probably one of the most apt longform reviews you will get on the topic. Sharp criticism with easy to understand examples make this a treat to watch with only the serial killer plot dragging down a masterful review.
