Definitely dated, but more kids' movies should be this creative and weird.

The dog looks like the Grinch. Not the dog from the Grinch, he looks like the actual Grinch, and that's why I love him. If I had a son, and I do, he'd have to watch this, and he did. He's too young to pay attention so it was mostly just on in the background to hopefully get some positive morals seeped into him subconsciously. That's okay though, that's how and why I watch the Saw movies.

If I had children, they would grow up with this. The Wizard of Oz by way of The Magic School Bus, Jones' film is thematically superior to its better-known peers, even if the budget shows in places. A hidden minor gem with a lot of heart, smart dialogue and a great moral.

An unsung masterpiece of American animation. A fantastic adaptation of one of the finest children's books ever written that honors its source while utilizing the filmic medium. Much of the genius wordplay and ideas manages to stay true in the film. Plus this is the only feature length film directed by Chuck Jones, I don't know why it's not an American classic and a staple in every family's home. It's not even on DVD for christ's sake!!! 5.0 Stars Want To See Not Interested An unsung mast

In a 3-way brawl between this, Yellow Submarine, and The Point for best pseudo-psychedelic childhood favorite i'm going to say this has to be the winner. Then again i'll need to watch all three back to back on acid to know for sure...

A fantastical chronicle of a disillusioned youth overcoming depression. Tons of delightful and memorable characters and the perfect length. Seriously, 90 minutes is always the right amount of time for a movie.

The Phantom Tollbooth isn't Jones' best work but it's definitely a great animated movie. The story the movie is based on is classic and the animation itself is a great depiction of the crazy world.

A childhood favorite of mine, the book and the movie. Shows its age to some extent, particularly in the musical numbers, but there is wonderful wordplay for those who love language.

Too long when it's the same thing happening over and over. But the characters were good

Wow, that really was Eddie Munster. Some pretty awful songs throughout--especially the one with the titles ("You should see how interesting life is"?--eek). Awfully preachy--seemed almost like Pilgrim's Progress in a way. And there didn't really seem to be much point to it either (except as a video to accompany an Up With People seminar). The Awful Din was a hoot though--and the Sunset Suite was cool. Also thought the Doldrums song would make a good YouTube video (and maybe it already has).

Wonderfully animated and surreal, but the Chuck Jones visuals are the only reason to check it out. The narrative is so obviously and artlessly didactic that it drags the whole thing down.

This just didn't have the spark I was hoping for. The animation is fine, and the voice actors are top-notch. The story is similar to Alice in Wonderland, which means it's both educational and trippy. It just comes across as too preachy. The musical parts were hit-or-miss, with Doldrums being a favorite, but the others (especially the intro) being mostly forgettable.

The live-action bookends are shoddy, but the animated majority of the film is alright. The pacing is very quick, there are fun new characters and locales around every corner, and a couple of the songs are even pretty good. It's still B-animation at best. Jones's visuals are too restrained (especially for the era) and lack the polish a theatrical feature demands, so it feels like a television special, or a very long short.
