An odd, tonally confused movie that's not sure what it wants to be (drama? horror? fantasy? dark comedy?). Not really a good movie, but too bizarrely captivating to dismiss.

Grotesquely Canadian. Puberty drove him to KILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. There's a reason this kid couldn't get any work after, oh my lord, creepiest ghouliest kid ever.

Its best scenes are early, like when Jamie stares at his sleeping babysitter's nipples. That's got the freaky transgressive energy of the best parts of Bava's similar Shock. The teddy bear stuff is underdone - there's a cool moment when the glass eyes of the monsters fade into the glass eye of the bear. I wish there were more moments of otherworld malice like that.

I kept trying to convince myself that this was a movie in the vein of Bad Seed. The pit was a metaphor for the boy's deep, dark soul. The bear, a vision into the boy's complex mind. The Tra-la-lags, a representation of the boy's pent up rage. The boy's fascination with nipples, a fascination with nipples. But then came the last 15 minutes and my brain browned like a neglected banana, so I had to make banana bread. Washing machine.

Bad, but entertaining.

This is a pretty entertaining low budget movie with extreme tonal shifts. One half seems like a after school special and the other as a cheesy creature feature. The boy who plays Jamie is either a really good actor or a really bad one which just so happens to fit the script. It gets extra point for the ending.
