The Pleasure of Being Robbed

The protagonist has a charming, makeup-less face, New York looks great in a visceral way, and the soundtrack is very good. Even despite the actress' likability, the character is flatly not likable. Moreover, the poor editing makes the film feel very long. Nothing is really accomplished and there's no character development, so the whole thing devolves into aimless, pointless portraiture.

Small person in a big world voyeurism, with the camera trying its best to imitate human vision. I'm a sucker for New York locations, but this isn't terribly exciting or complex.

to make a film engaging and impressionable without introducing any conflict should deserve some applause

For a 23 year old filmmaker/writer/actor, this film is incredible. It packs the same unique, graceful, captivating cinematic elements that every other Safdie film has. While the film is lacking in the writing, even for a film that obviously doesn't care much about its writing, my interest in it started to wane about halfway through. While I knew nothing terribly interesting awaited before I even began watching, I was still somewhat surprised and disappointed by just how much focus there wasn't.

Nicely constructed, and confers some aimless enjoyment. Kind of slight.

non-judgmental and enjoyable enough diversion about a woman who goes around stealing things. the moment with the polar bear was touching. not the most interesting film style though, more of that mumblecore stuff.

This movie has an interesting, realistic vibe, but not enough happens.

It's impossible to plow

Clearly falls into the "too unassuming for it's own good" category, but rather charming just the same.

There is no real film to review. It's just a day in the life of kleptomaniac. Actually for that it is original but not very interesting.
