Oddball horror satire starring MacLaine as a uptight WASP bitch whose life falls apart when her bohemian brother loses his mind after consorting with (gasp!) Puerto Ricans! A disturbing attack on race/class relations, another entry in the 'New-York-as-hell' subgenre of 70s films. The last 10 minutes get particularly nasty but its a joy to watch MacLaine (head to toe in fur) stomp around campily in full Cruella mode, her face in disgust at all the 'darkies' as she wanders the New York slums.

Reasonable, but doesn't quite meet the potential of its interesting premise. It could have stood to be a little less predictable. And it kind of bothered me that Shirley MacLaine reacted with only quiet surprise to seeing severed heads, but then screamed like a madwoman and swooned when some Puerto Ricans involve her in a magic ritual.
