A poor transition from novel to screen: the movie is not bad, but seems awkward and shallow compared to the book.

Such an amazing story about the aparthied. A very courageous white english boy helping the helpless south african blacks. This is a movie to help stop racism. If you are not too keyed on violence, it will be hard to watch. I thought i wouldn't be able to handle the movie, but i just love morgan freeman very much as well as boxing.

I wanted to love this film and it sure started out strong. It gave a good background on the origins of Apartheid under the guise of a coming-of-age story. But it got too didactic and melodramatic. It's worth seeing but don't expect a masterpiece. Also expect to have trouble understanding the child narrator's thick accent for the first 1/3 of the film.

We watched The Power of One in high school for some reason. I remember enjoying it but holy shit its depressing sequence of events borders on manipulative and overly cruel.
