It was… fine. Hathaway is as charming as ever and the most interesting part of the movie, which must count for something since she is the lead. Andrews was also enjoyable. I guess the cast is what kept me invested, because it otherwise feels a bit melodramatic at times and can’t help but feeling like a Disney Channel Original Movie with better acting and jokes. Felt a little too long too. It’s a decent time-killer overall, especially for Hathaway fans, which I am.

Cute premise is squandered by a script that goes in a hundred directions -- none of them remotely genuine -- and never seems to end. Hathaway is appealing, Andrews's touch of class is more than welcome, but the film is an ordeal.

The "nerdy girl becomes a princess" premise is a solid foundation for your typical but perfectly decent comedic family film with touches of drama and a heart warming conclusion (especially solid given Hathaway's splendid turn as the lovably odd Mia), but the zany inconsequential characters (the melancholic neighbour, the bumbling police officers) and offbeat one-liners here give this film a sharp wit that raises it above others of its kind. A sweet and funny film that earns repeated viewings.

Didn't we all dream of being something greater than what we were growing up? That one day we would become instantly famous, strike it rich, or something equivalent. This is pretty much the movie version of that fantasy. It's cute, funny, and inoffensive for the most part. It's not complex and it ends as you expect a movie like this would, but it's a fun ride and made me laugh more than it should. Plus Joe is one of the coolest characters around.

Good natured and light hearted sitcom pilot is squarely in director Marshall's wheelhouse who handles the sometimes laboured gag set-ups and deliveries with adroit timing, helped by a fun cast not playing down to the material (it's great fun to see Andrews unleash her full inner Henry Higgins!) While a tendency towards overlength means the pace slackens in the second half, this is still a not-quite-guilty pleasure. Shout-out to Elizondo, proving his worth as Marshall's lucky charm once again!

There are like millions of rags-to-riches comedies but this one seems particularly distasteful, because it latches onto and cultivates a teen fantasy of being a princess. I really don't see it as a positive message and something to be encouraged.

This movie is pretty great. Being almost 30 and finding much enjoyment in this film makes me feel like I should call this a guilty pleasure. Garry Marshall makes just a cute little film. Anne Hathaway will always bring a smile to your face with her adorable antics. Sandra Oh is funny as the principal. Julie Andrews is a very stately Queen of a fake country. I just can't say enough nice things about this movie. It just makes you smile and after all, isn't that why we watch movies?

I have the feeling this movie got the green light because Julie Andrews agreed to be in it. Then, they got lucky with Hathaway which has one of the best debutes in the last decades. Everything else is just cliches, BS, preachy talk, forced female empowerment while demeaning women all around. I still have 10 minutes to watch, but I can't be bothered.

I don't care who this movie was designed for and if, as a 30 year old man, I'm not it's intended audience, the movie was pretty awful, and the premise and every character's reaction to what was going on around them was absolutely unbelievable. No excuses, people. Having said that, it's at least not painfully difficult to watch, it's not like you'll really regret seeing it.
