This is a classic swashbuckler. Rudolph Rassendyll, Rudolf V's identical distant cousin, is asked to risk his life and impersonate the would-be king when his relative is kidnapped before his impending coronation. If Rudolf V isn't present at the ceremony, he will forfeit the crown to his younger brother. Complications ensue when Princess Flavia, the cousin's betrothed, begins to notice a "personality change" in her fiancé. (imdb)

Stock characters are trotted out to play-act Ruritanian mischief, while passing comment on Britain's 1936 Abdication Crisis.

I love this movie! There is some dumb parts and silliness but it doesn't diminish the pure fun and rousing excitement I got while watching this. The best part is that I had a great time throughout. The best movie I've seem in a very long time.

Finally got to see this classic. Fun movie and it really showcases Ronald Colman, who played the dual roles.

Jolly good adventure story. The romance is totally nonconvincing, but everything else sparkles

A really magnificently staged adaptation of the novel with a really wonderful cast. Fairbanks in particular impresses when allowed to play a villain. Mary Astor is also on hand.

The Prisoner of Zenda is a classic story and this is a damn fine dramatization! And what a selected cast! Ronald Colman did his usual elegant performance in his dual role as the king and major. The man knows how to carry a movie. C. Aubrey Smith is always a screen heavyweight! But the most magnetic of them all was Douglas Fairbanks Jr.! I will give him credit as the most important actor in this movie. His sleazy, unshameful bad boy act boosts the film every time he appears! What charisma!

A swashbuckler to the core, done with great style, lavish production. Superior fun.

A harmless bit of swashbuckling fun. Some fine actors who all seem to be having a good time, especially Colman and Fairbanks Jr. The instant romance with the charming Madeleine Carroll works as well as can be expected, but a melodramatic finish spoils it somewhat.
