Anthony Hope's classic tale gets a decidedly 'un-classic' treatment at the hands of Peter Sellers. Following the story somewhat, friends of the new King Rudolph of Ruritania fear for his life, and switch him with a look-a-like London cabby. Throw in two(!) lovely blondes, treachery, and a battle for life and honour, and enjoy life at its zaniest. (imdb)

I love The Prisoner of Zenda story but this was completely unfunny crap. I think part of the problem is the fact that I don't find Peter Sellers funny.

I see what the cast and crew were trying to do with The Prisoner of Zenda, but it just didn't work for me. Ultimately, the film is just not funny. Most of the slapstick falls flat and the writing lacks enough charm and wit to do the story justice. The pacing is also sluggish. Sellers is seemingly an icon, but this film does not show why. The owl-chicken bit made me chuckle though.
