The Promise

Full of power-play posturing, overblown narratives, bombastic set pieces and truly nauseating CGI that would have lent itself better to one of Chow's moleitaus. But can I dismiss it? Not entirely. Its operatic form seems to latch itself onto some repressed recess in the mind where dreams become deja vu. So the ending is brave in its own way.

Unneccesarily convoluted, and chock full of ridiculous CGI that looks like it's right out of Kung Fu Hustle. Hiroyuki Sanada is too good of an actor to waste his time on drivel like this.

Lots of good fight scenes, though kung fu along the fantasy side. Decent CGI to make the scenery beautiful. Also decent story line. Good acting from the players, though not award winning.
