Good action sequences around a nonsense plot studded with some hokey SFX sequences. Worth seeing for the non-stop headpunching

It's about as intelligent as the previous Protector (so, not very), but who cares when the action is deliciously brütal, right? Well, the issue with this sequel is the overuse of crummy CGI. Even when it's just used for adding backgrounds, it makes everything feel fake. A shame, since most of the action was pretty neat. The moment when two characters stand on charged train tracks that give every swipe and kick lightsaber-noises should win some sort of 'So Bad It Becomes Amazing' prize.

automatic 15 point deduction for rza. you will have to look hard to find any trace of the magic that pinkaew and jaa previously had together. my favorite fights were actually the ones featuring yanin. lots and lots of painful cgi. oh and a pointless and unimpressive gopro sequence. i REALLY wanted to like this :(

Not as bad as Ong-Bak 2 and 3 at least, but still a far cry from Ong-Bak and The Protector. There was an American cut of The Protector that removed most of the exposition and kept all the action. It seems like they went the opposite way with The Protector 2. Where's all the action? Why is it that most of the action is full of CGI and wires? Another disappointment, but not horrible at least.

Some of the worst CGI and slow motion I've ever seen. Also, why did they need CGI and slow motion in a martial arts film?! It ended up being just another sub par action movie with a terrible plot and only a few well choreographed fights. And RZA, I know you have a real love for these kind of movies, but please, stick to music.

I don't know what happened to Tony Jaa but he has only been able to make two good movies. While this was at least better than Ong-Bak 3 it fell short of even the second one. The biggest problems here are the over use of CGI which distract and cheapen the whole production and inane video game plot. Gone seems to be Tony's incredibility power, intensity and athleticism replaced with a generic Jackie Chan wanna be style. Jeeja Yanin is a nice highlight here but is underused and Rza is shitty.

F*cking bananas. The plot makes very little sense scene to scene, the characters are poorly developed, written, and for the most part acted, but the action can be a lot of fun when it isn't incomprehensible and/or laden with unecessary CGI. The action goes over the top to the point of absolute absurdity at times and causes the movie to be downright hilarious in a way where you are laughing at the movie more so than you are laughing with it. Completely ridiculous. Worth a watch, despite constantly bouncing between campy and stupid.

Not good. A tepid pace, a painfully long motorbike set-piece, obvious wires and awful CGI, and a tragic lack of martial arts dry this film up long before anything interesting happens. The goofy electricity guy had promise, though. (DNF)

Tony Jaa in the land of very unconvincing CGI.
