I was hoping for some sweet 80's action but all I got was a cheap looking movie with hungover Dolph Lundgren.

The film wastes no time on tedious backstory or unnecessary romantic subplots. It's nonstop killing and action from start to finish. So from one perspective it's kind of nihilistic and cheap, from another it's refreshingly fun and to the point.

I no way true to the comic book, but a fair action flick. Believe it or not, I would have liked this a whole lot better if it wasn't tied in with the comic, because my expectations would have been far lower, and this film would have surpassed them. But by adding in The Punisher tag, it set the bar too high for this movie, which has since been relegated to late night slots on pay cable.

This was just a generic action movie story with the Punisher's name slapped on. He doesn't even wear the trademark skull shirt. It was boring, and Lundgren was terrible. He showed less emotion then a block of wood, and had the same stupid expression on his face the whole time. I wouldn't say this was terrible, it did most things at least semi competently, but there is no reason to watch it.

Lundgreen at his dumbest. Louis Gossett Jr. at his poorest, apparently.

I was expecting garbage, and garbage is what I got. But it was more enjoyable than I anticipated and I ended up having fun with it

This is so ridiculous I actually enjoyed it. Try counting the action movie cliches: Ninjas dancing in a circle around the hero- check. Firing endless rounds without reloading- check. Stab a guy through a wall because he probably was there- check. Abandoned amusement park- check. Multiple explosions for no reason- check.

If you're a fan of mindless action and intense fights, you got it. If you want a deep story and a really well-rounded Punisher film, I'm sorry.

It's not a bad idea to have Punisher's hideout in the sewers, but here's 2 awful ideas: have him riding a motorcycle down there like he's on a freeway & kneeling naked in meditation. Points to the screenwriter who realizes Punisher has no arc & so he gives him a friend who wants to pull him out of his killing spree & ups the criminal quotient in an interesting way by having the mafia vs the yakuza w/ kidnapped kids thrown in as well. Unfortunately Lundgren's charisma-free performance sinks it

The Punisher in name only. It's nonstop blood and death, but it fails at being fun or entertaining.

I guess I only know Old Lundgren; I didn't even realize it was Dolph until the credits rolled. Anyways, he sure wasn't great here. Really, other than the mob boss' kid, the entire cast was terrible, and none of the characters came close to seeming larger than life or charismatic enough to establish a believable framework for the film. The action set pieces are the highlights, though the third-rate soundtrack and bad editing undermine it. Weak, awkward final encounter, too. 9th film of 2018

Well, it's certainly something different. It's dark and violent and I can see where the idea of the character can be interesting, but this movie doesn't do anything with it. It broods badly and all the key plot points are nonsense but worst of all the action is only good in spurts.

Here's the thing. This is very easily just a cheesy 80's action film, its just that its not one of the better ones. Basically a vigilante script that puts the Punisher's name on the posters. Lundgren can be hard to bear sometimes, but its a fun cheesy. Honestly this probably could have been a little better if it didn't butcher the fun of Punisher. Kind of sad.

It's nothing earth-shattering in terms of themes, plot or direction, but the emphasis on ballsy, eighties, meat-and-potatoes action makes it very enjoyable. At 89 minutes, "The Punisher" is very to-the-point - although I was pleasantly surprised by the occasional funny bits and the very enjoyable and unexpected 'sidekick' of Shake (played by Barry Otto) - and that's something that definitely boosts the results in the consistency department but ultimately deprives them of potential greatness.

It has f*ck all to do with the Punisher character, it s just a mediocre 80s action flick with a few satisfying kills and tons of 80s action stupidity. Lundgren delivers a bland performance. There are a few awesomesome shootout sequences and, holy shit, the scene with the samurai elite warriors - comedy gold, I tell you.

Back to Back Movie Night: The Punisher Probably my favorite Punisher film, this 80's action flick has lots going for it. Dolph Lundgren's motorcycle riding, sewer dwelling, strong silent type Punisher works surprisingly well. The biggest shock for me when rewatching this is that it's only 85 minutes long. So much action for a relatively short movie.

Goldblatt's work as an editor is commendable (e.g. T2, Showgirls, Starship Troopers etc), but directing wasn't his bag, and The Punisher is low rent action junk of its time with piss poor action scenes, atrocious editing with mismatched shots, and Lundgren relying on his beyond limited skillset that makes Seagal look versatile by comparison.

The Punisher as a standalone action film is watchable and there are moments of enjoyment. However as an adaption of its comic book source material it's a poor translation and fans of the comics should rightly feel disappointed. However I've never been a fan of the comics so I had no nostalgia or sentiment at stake. Dolph Lundgren looks the part and there are several enjoyable set pieces. Otherwise it's a generic and forgettable action film. But it's by no means Dolph Lundgren's worst.

Typical 80's action flick that happens to be about The Punisher. Besides the name, the look, and the guns, not much else is really faithful to the comic. No longer a 'Nam vet, Castle is now an ex-cop, and his partner (Gossett Jr.) is trying to find and help him. Castle, meanwhile, has to fix a mess he helped create: the Yakuza are taking over since the U.S. mob has been oblitered by the Punisher. The film is very simple but satisfying.

This is a dumb, dumb movie, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the hell out of it. Super campy performances. Ridiculous action sequences. It feels like a TV pilot in a weird way, and I kind of wish there was more.

Um, yeah, I think I saw this... because I remember Dolph Lundgren being the title character -- however, for the life of me, I can't recall anything that happened or even if I liked it or not -- so it gets a low score simply for being so utterly forgettable.

Typical 80s action fair disguised and dressed up as a faithful homage to The Punisher. Besides the look, guns and trademark name, not much is notably the same about him. Simple yes, but fun....no.

It gets dull very rapidly. There's about 45 minutes of ludicrous fun and 45 minutes of generic scenes of Lundgren shooting people. It's not terrible, but it's fairly mediocre. I'll give it this ... it's better than the Thomas Jane movie and about on par with the Ray Stevenson one. That's pretty damn good for a cheap knock-off.

For a boy growing up wanting to watch superhero films when only a handful were being made, this was awesome. In retrospect, its use of stereotypes and predictable action do absolutely nothing for it.

It is enjoyable for what it is: an 80ies take on the titular character. In that light, it is a good adventure in the spirit of later adaptations. Sure it feels a bit simple at times, but it was never a complicated story...
