I have a hard time judging this film; I'm very far from being a North African Jew. But what I can judge is its commitment to showing religion, culture and race as multifaceted. It has different kinds of Jews, different kinds of Muslims, different kinds of Arabs, different kinds of Russians, different kinds of black Africans, different kids of men, different kinds of women, even different kinds of talking animals. That doesn't mean they can't be flat or stereotyped, but the message gets across.

If there were more films that tolerable for multi racial and religions the world would be better place to be and maybe the Jan. 7, 2015 Paris massacre at Charlie Hebdo never happened. The style was original and story funny. Tintin was a good critic during the story. For the ending they should pay more attention.

I loved everything about this film, from the absolutely stunning animation--clearly inspired by Tintin and Fleischer Studios--to the positive depiction of both Jews and Muslims. The film makes a wonderful point of emphasizing the importance of open communication and keeping an open mind. It has some real pacing issues in the second half, but I can overlook that for a film this beautiful, funny, and inspiring.

Nicely animated and full of charm, but the stakes are never high enough for the movie to become truly involving.

"Despite its flaws, the film is at least a consistent vision, attesting through both its story and animation to the rabbi's right to be different while also striving for human solidarity." - Ed Gonzalez

I was a fan of the comic series by Sfar himself and I must say that the movie lived up to my lofty expectations. Le Chat du Rabbin is a brilliant La Fontaine style rumenation on the clashes of religions, their effect on daily life and how they are interpreted by different people in such extremely different ways. The characters were adapted for cinema;the selection of Klezmer together with Arabic tunes was a great musical choice. Behind all the cuteness there is a tremendous depth to this movie.
