Never decides exactly on the tone and has some ridiculous supporting characters....but the core story about the magical properties of ramen was quite heartwarming...and true. It's extremely Japanese, which makes Brittany Murphy ideal casting as the pathetic lost American girl.

It's got some good heart to it, but it's really uneven in tone. There are a lot of subplots and side characters who never get fleshed out or serve much purpose. I did enjoy Nishida as the chef.

The story was strained. Living and working in japan over a year and still not understanding your japanese teacher? Huh?. The storyline was hard to swallow, but there were a few entertaining moments. Typical japanese mystical garbage of putting your spirit into a bowl of ramen, come on, how hard could it possibly be to make a good broth? The story should have been better. As much as I like Brittany Murphy I just could not love this movie. It left me wanting something better.

Liked better than Lost in Translation. Brittany Murphy keeps my attention but I don't think I've heard her voice like this before---here she always sounds like she's about to cry. I liked that people spoke Japanese instead of accented English. There is a bit of tropey white person learns foreign skill from a harsh master. Side characters felt unnecessary or incomplete (deleted scenes confirm they made the right choice). Same w/fantasy elements. Fav scene: Murphy starting 1st day wearing heels?!

Dull: The character is weak, a perfect movie stereo type, the character's motivations are impossible to determine, the situations are uninteresting. In summery, the film is about soup, how exciting do you think it's going to get?

Mehmet Aslantuğ'un ''Hiçbir kadın geleceğini bir adamın vicdanına, aşkına, günün sonunda bir gün aklının karışmasına bırakmamalı.'' sözünü hatırlattı bu film bana.
