I'm torn. It seems to encourage facilitated communication which is pseudoscience, and the narration from the book is wank. But Rothwell mimics sensory overload well both aurally and visually, and chooses instead to make this a companion piece and include the stories of a few other autistic people... it is there that The Reason I Jump is strong.

Intermittently interesting documentary unfortunately never really gets at the "reason" - Rothwell seems more intent on presenting an abstract aural and visual representation of the "jumping" if you like, rather than the objective experience of it, which exacerbates the alienating feel of the "strange" behaviour of its participants rather than inviting the viewer in. Still a noble and interesting effort and the testimonies of both subjects and care-givers are quite moving.
