I uh... I just don't fully understand the artistic choices here, where the generic psychological thriller suddenly turns generic slasher. Motivations are left unclear, and not in any appealingly mysterious way.

it's just DRINKING BUDDIES remade as a slasher for no good reason whatsoever. the inevitable denouement is so extraneous it almost comes across like a studio requirement. dunno if it's 'cause her husband directed but alison brie is by far the best thing about this; she covers a lot of ground and nails every beat (tempted to give an extra point just for her hilarious line reading of 'fuck, they lost the dog').

I actually loved the ending. You really don't get to see the murderer unhook his cameras and shit and just move on very often... along with the pre-credits footage/eerie music, it's a wonderful ending. The rest is wholly unoriginal, but with decent performances and entertaining--but predictable--drama. Build up is a little too much, and sometimes mystery is compelling but here it doesn't add anything, so it feels hollow. Franco got promise, good sense of atmosphere. Not scary though.

An ok tense thriller that doesn't have a satisfying end.

1st half worked quite well as a drama with an eerie atmosphere - largely thanks to the great location. It was a bit disappointing to see it evolve into a slasher. The ending has received a lot of criticism, but I respected how people actually died when being hit (and remained dead), and I didn't need a backstory to explain the motivations of the killer. But I agree that the finale needed something extra and left me asking; is that all? I'm not big on puns, but the title sums this one up nicely.

What kind of payoff was that? I'm not against endings where the bad guy wins, but for the last remaining person to just FALL OFF A CLIFF? I would've rather him kill her. What does that add to anything?

It's funny, while watching this, I got a sense of "mumblecore" only to realize at the end that it was written by Joe Swanberg. Fucking guy is like a cockroach....just never going away. As for the film itself, I enjoy endings like this, but not enough happened to keep me too invested or warrant another viewing.

I think the characters were acted well enough, and the situation drew me in for a while, but I was seriously disappointed with the way everything came together, with the movie ultimately seeming to have no point to me by the end.

Franco presents this in a capable enough way, it's just a pity there is almost nothing interesting going on here. Soap opera dressed up as steamy slasher.

A lot of cringy stuff happens here, and I don't just mean the main point of the story, relationship wise also. Although not much happens, I like the atmosphere created, it does suck you in to their drama. And I really kinda enjoyed the ending. We don't see it that often.

The first two-thirds of the movie are kind of slow and mundane, but the third act picks up the pace considerably. A small entertaining movie that you will forget about five minutes after you finished watching.

I love the banality of the ending. Fuck the gig-economy and everyone who participates in it deserves to die!

This film is fun, and a surprising first outing from Dave Franco as Director. It's not SUPER original, but the pacing is very well done.

Thought is not a terribly unique premise, a great cast leads this short, but paced, thriller on the Oregon coast. Everything comes to its inevitable conclusion which is a bit of a problem that once the credits roll you ask "that's it?" Franco shows promise behind the camera.

Airbnb horror lol. Well, promising start until it gets unbearably predictable, but I guess Franco goes kinda well at horror mumblecore. The Halloween 2018 vibe seems as cool as too derivative.

I already feared what this movie explores and I'm not sure how I feel about having a visual representation to back up that fear. I only planned to watch about twenty minutes and ended up finishing the entire film because of how well written and engaging the story was. I don't think the ending matched the cleverness of the rest of the film, but overall I really liked it. I am interested to see what will be next in Dave Franco's writing/directing career.

For the most part, it’s pretty well done. The cast is better than most films of the genre, and I love it when Horror/Thrillers build from a Drama. As mentioned, the climax is weak, and with a maximum of one or two mildly likable characters, it’s hard to really root for them. What comes after the climax does help it from feeling like a let down. It was almost great, but still ended up being good enough. Actually enjoyed it a bit more than Vacancy.

With every actor turned director their first movie is always going to be deeply indebted to their influences in a way that is hindering BUT I love what Franco is trying to emulate here. Freaky

I mean, it's nothing special, but Dave Franco gets some major kudos for having his directorial debut be a reasonably straightforward slasher instead of what his brother did trying to adapt Faulkner and McCarthy.

Franco's directorial debut isn't necessarily bad; he obviously knows the basics, and he has at least one really good actor (Brie). It's just so unfocused; from mumblecore drama to sub-Hitchcock to home invasion to slasher, all without really committing to either or delivering anything memorable, with flat straight-out-of-the-box characters paying lipservice to various story beats that ultimately mean nothing.

Strangely enough, the film's pivot into slasher actually ended up crafting a story far less tense and infinitely less interesting than its established storyline and character conflicts thus far. In fact, those very circumstances had just peaked into this intriguing moral dilemma thriller only moments before that random 3rd party involvement established its rather inorganic explanation for events that could (and should) transpire as perfectly natural plot development anyhow. Such a waste.

It took a really long time for the film to get going and, once it did, it wasn't particularly interesting. There's some decent suspense and it certainly gets tense at points, but it overall felt like a wasted opportunity.
