One of those commendable shoot-em-ups that, if nothing else, will make you wonder what happened to Mira Sorvino, and if more than 10 percent of movie fans are aware she's an Oscar winner.

Some pretty decent action scenes with an alright story make for an average action movie. The soundtrack, however, is absolutely awesome and really makes the movie better than it would be otherwise.

Not good but salvaged by Chow Yun Fat's presence alone. It's too bad that Hollywood is utterly clueless as to what to do with charismatic non martial arts genre asian stars. The action and plot is mediocre with second string Hollywood director Fuqua going through the motions here trying his best to imitate Hong Kong.

It is an action film, pure and simple, and if it's action you want, this delivers quite nicely and for that it gets a marginal recommendation.

More disappointment from Chow Yun Fat mostly due to a forgettable script and Mira Sorvino seeming lost.

As much as I like Chow Yun-Fat and Mira Sorvino, the only thing I can rave about in this movie is the soundtrack provided by America's greatest electronic outfit, The Crystal Method.

Chow Yun Fat's first Hollywood flick is pretty much a watered down version of the action movies he made with John Woo in Hong Kong. Plenty of style and director Antoine Fuqua knows how to make Chow Yun Fat look bad ass but in the end we've seen it all before done on a much better scale.

Okay, so the story is pretty much just an excuse to get the characters from place to place so they can shoot at each other some more, but I found it entertaining. Kind of a pseudo-foreign-sub-John-Woo knockoff.

A couple good shoot-outs, but not what we'd been used to from Chow-Yun Fat at that point. Shame.

A decent introduction of Chow Yun-Fat to the American audience. Please watch Hard Boiled by John Woo to truly witness Chow Yun-Fat in action.

Style over everything. Looks great & mostly works, perhaps i was just expecting too much. Some of the lines don't work, nevertheless Mira does good as action vehicle meets unlikely romantic interest.

First time rated on December 23rd, 2008. Rewatching this almost 12 years later on my completely unexplainable quest to watch every movie Mr. Fuqua directed. This one is an Americanized (or bastardized) bullet ballet flick. Although it is a very close imitation of John Woo's early work, it is cheesy and somewhat pathetic where same movies made in HK are cool and fun. Beats me.

This is a straight forward action movie but it is put together well. The action scenes are exciting and the two leads work great together. The movie has some nice dark moments and clear motivations for the characters. I definitely recommend this fun action movie.

Simply a soulless homage to John Woo that just happens to star Chow Yun-Fat. Some say Mira Sorvino was miscast, and I disagree; she was simply poorly written and did the best she could given her material. The failure is definitely in the script, but Fuqua directs it like a film student imitating his idol. It has some nice moments though.

Chow Yun Fat has a gun and people are going to get shot to shit. Thats all the plot you need. Doesn't make this a good film, though.

This film woos us with non-stop action forced into a tight package that exhibits elements of both Hong Kong-esque fisticuffs and Hollywood gun-toting heroism. A good movie.

One could never cite this frowny-faced HK-tailored bullet ballet as bearing a morsel of intelligence, but it's still a trendy shoot-em-up that introduced us to skilled action helmer Antoine Fuqua and gave the gorgeous and underused Mira Sorvino something cool to do. The supporting cast is finely selected and Chow can do this role in his sleep, let alone in English.
