The Rescue

That a dramatization by Ron Howard based on these events is soon coming out makes a whole lot of sense. It's a more or less flawlessly constructed movie plot, only written by real life - and Chin and Vasarhelyi pull out all the stops.

A gripping and tense telling of a seemingly impossible story.

A very well-made documentary about a story that is certainly worth being told. The only reason I'm not rating this higher is that I would have preferred the integration of the reenacted scenes to be handled differently.

Given the subject matter, a reliably gripping documentary (especially in 2023 when some of the specifics of the saga have faded from memory). An odd lack of involvement (or even insight) into the kids at the heart of the story is the only weakness; they are effective enough as poignant beacons, but you can’t help feel their side of things would have been an interesting counterweight to the more procedural aspects of the rescue. An effective (and powerful) historical document if nothing else.

I think that as a documentary, this one finds a good balance in between being both informational as well as emotional. It's often easy to tip the scales too much in the other direction or gloss over some uglier details such as giving up or feeling uncertain. In this world where there are so many ugly things, it's just good to watch something where people come together to accomplish something together.

A testament and love letter to humanity.

Remarkable story of generosity and perseverance. Explores the Thai cave rescue from multiple angles and succeeds in building a good narrative of the event. I wish I could emulate half the bravery these people showed in the time of need.

Highly emotional and suffocating story about not so everyday group of weird heroes making the rescue of the century. Too bad the film never lives up to the actual story -- I'd rather read an in-depth book about it -- and it feels kinda too "official" and calculated, but not without its obvious merits.

In a world overrun with fictional comic book characters on screen, these middle-aged cave diving dads are actual superheroes. I was able to shake the hands of multiple of the divers after my screening, and it was a moment I won't forget.

Decent documentary about the Thailand cave rescue from a few years back. There's nothing really new to be learned in the movie, which probably makes it differ than many other documentaries, but it was still a good watch. I'm going to guess a lot of the underwater scenes were re-enactments, which is fine.

This documentary has a natural advantage of telling an amazing story for which there is a lot of available footage. They still do a good job of mixing interview footage with real footage from the events and re-enactments.
