The Returned

The film brings some welcomed humanism to the zombie genre but the ending quite effectively destroys the whole thing. Ultimately, it doesn't seem to have any real message, which is very disappointing considering the subject.

The premise was quite interesting, the outcome too slow and it was really difficult to feel for any of the protagonists, since I found none of them very likable...

Somewhat similar to the vampire film Daybreakers, in that it has a larger agenda and human element that it just can't quite convey effectively.

Alright movie. Amazing acting. It was more drama than anything else. Could've benefitted from a better ending. Wouldn't necessary watch it again but not a complete waste of time.

Great script. And amazing performance for this budget. Important to understand - this is not for zombie movie people. If you are fan of genre, please choose something else, and return to this movie tomorrow.

very slow 2 acts followed by a better 3rd act which ends terribly bad..

The zombie stuff seems superfluous and I get the feeling it's only included because the filmmakers wanted to ride on the coattails of a fad. The attempted comparison to the discrimination of immigrants/jews/palestinians/whoever falls flat as the movie demonstrates "the returned" to be a real threat, as opposed to a claimed, imaginary one. The ending is one of the worst I have seen and goes against the entire movie.

the concept is good. realization isn't. the acting is below average, the directing completely forgetable and everything screams low budget. however, if you take the initial idea of depicting life in a world where a treatment for the zombie virus is already established, you're options are basically infinite. there's so much left to be desired, in themes and scale, the return to humanity/civilization etc...the only right thing here would be for some more talented/funded studio to build upon this.

good movie

The idea of the dead coming back as ordinary people seems to pop up a lot lately. "The Returned", for a long time, works quite well as a low-key drama set in a potential horror movie, before sadly tossing half of it away with a last unnecessary twist that makes me wish I'd just pressed "STOP" with 10 minutes to go. A pity, but with a little more brains (as opposed to BRAAAINS) it could have really had something.
