Not too bad actually. I won't put it up there with my favorite horror films, but it is fairly well made. Some scares legitimately got me, and I have been thinking about the movie for a couple of days, so maybe it's even better than I'm making it out to be. Watts was good and probably the only real highlight acting-wise. The imagery is very interesting and cool to look at, especially the tape, and it's fun watching everything unravel. More creepy than scary, which isn't bad. I liked it.

One of my all-time favourite horror movies. Naomi Watts is spot on with her performance, and the script is smoothly written without a single plothole or mistake. Samara, the vengeful ghost in this story, is one of the coolest villians I've ever heard of. Fantastic movie!

Some scary imagery throughout. I found it to be pretty frightening myself. While none of the acting truly great it's still impressive for a horror flick. Good for a scare.

This is a merciless thriller, threateningly beautiful to look at and eerie to behold. Verbinski and Kruger refuse to let its characters off the hook, cleverly setting up a false predictable and conventional ending and then going on for another fifteen minutes to totally skewer expectations. As Roger Ebert once said in describing Alfred Hitchcock's work on 1960's "Psycho," Verbinski delights in playing his audience like a piano. With this movie, he plays it with the skill of a master.

In some ways an anti-SIXTH SENSE. Effectively pursues a nightmare logic, and interestingly conveys a sense of technological, televisual, and telephonic menace. A superior member of the horror genre. I imagine this would have worked well in the cinema. Improves upon the original (which, admittedly, I only saw subsequently to this film). Re-watched August 2017.

(2nd viewing) Hasn't aged well at all. Casting director was like: "get me a creepy looking kid with bulging eyes who belongs in a horror movie". Unless she's playing an actress trying to make it in Hollywood like the one she played in Mulholland Dr., Naomi Watts' performances always feels like an actress trying to make it in Hollywood like the one she played in Mulholland Dr.

There are some pretty scary shocks and the film manages to develop and sustain suspense better than most modern horror films. I prefer this to the original because the story is more coherent.

I liked it better than the original. Blasphemous? Perhaps, but it might also come down to just being a case of whichever one you see first (in my case, obviously, the remake). Took me a long time to go to sleep after first seeing it.

Probably the only Japanese horror film remake of late that is actually much better than the original. The original looks like a high school film class project compared to this, and therefore it relies entirely on psychological horror. This rendition has that element compounded with the incredible cinematography. This movie is scary as shit if you have even one ounce of imagination.

The most horrifying part of this movie is that it sparked a craze in America of remaking bad Japanese horror movies, for some reason American film makers thought that Asian children were scary, but they're not. Along with that and the bad plot and bad acting, this sets out on a road to be forgotten after less than a decade. And good riddance.

Not an enjoyable movie at all save for maybe on or two scenes which at best look cool but aren't really scary. I understand why someone would take this as a great premise for a film, but in actuality, the delivery makes it fall flat on its face. If you like the crappy American remakes of subpar Asian horror, then go ahead and watch this. However, if your looking for something scary from Asia, watch an actual Asian horror film.

The Ring is a film that doesn't make a lot of sense, and as a result, isn't wholly watchable. There are a couple of cheap thrills involved, but since it doesn't follow logic, whether it be ours or its own, it fails. It tries to be primarily a mystery film, but there isn't much of a mystery here, apart from the reason that a scary tape made in 2002 would be on VHS instead of DVD. I guess our demon was working with a budget.

When you die you see the ring... and when you see The Ring in the cinema, you spend the next six months walking home with friends at night, creeping yourself out and sleeping with the lights on. Thirteen years on and this film still has me checking over my shoulder on lonely evenings if I happen to think about it too much - this film actually broke me. A westernised horror remake but no less affecting than the original. And I have absolutely no desire to ever see it again in my lifetime..

Ring is alright. It has some nice tension throughout, and Naomi Watts, but despite that, its still just a Japanese remake. It's a bit slow and its plot is very thin, predictable, and only somewhat unsettling. Worth a watch for the cultural relevance, but that's about as far as I'd go.

The Ring is a perfect example of the philosophy of less is more. Non violent for the most part. The jump scares are kept at the absolute minimum and Naomi Watts gives a worthwhile performance. Overall the Ring is subtle horror mystery done right.

It's really annoying how some horror movies get so hyped that everybody judges them against some unattainable standard and decides they're bad (70 PSI, same deal with Blair Witch). I actually laughed at how beautifully shot that flashback idyll was when Samara gets pushed in the well, but I agree with overrated about the flashbacks hints. They ruined the recurring imagery that could've otherwise felt poetic

I saw this at the cinema when it came out, and it freaked me out. It's definitely my type of horror film. And it just occurred to me that the infamous videotape is basically a version of 'Un Chien Andalou', which is quite different from saying it is a generically surreal visual-auditory experience. I am still yet to see 'Ringu'.

I'm not going to waste my time comparing it to the Japanese film I've not seen. On it's own merit, it's a solid horror film. I love Watts, and that fucking kid is creepy as shit. David Dorfman? What a fucking creepy kid. Of course, even solid horror films are still horror films. I prefer movies like this without a lot of jump scares, but instead rely on really disturbing imagery, but it still falls victim to being a product of its genre.

The RIng is only PG-13, and not high on gore and violence, but the hint that there could be more unpleasant images always looms in the back of your mind and you're more scared of what COULD happen than what actually does. The makers of The RIng are the type of people that tell you that there's a large, ugly spider somewhere in the bedroom before you are about to go to sleep, and you stay awake all night jumping at every tingle or itch that you think you feel. Dumb...but effective.

Surprising remake actually crams more thematic significance in addition to it's overt, unnecessary explanations of the boogeyman that disrupt the rhythm of most American remakes. Well shot by Gore Verbinski and enhanced by a generously disturbing dark gree color palette, the flick scores even more points for Naomi Watts' performance and the notable concept of the mass media as villain. Not as good as the original.
