The real problem with the film is a very uneven tone throughout, to the point that it seems surreal, an effect clearly unintended. Sometimes it plays for laughs; other times it is serious; the end takes a surprising twist for such films. It is a very beautiful film, taking advantage of the Snake River setting in Hell's Canyon, not a common backdrop to films
