The River Wild

Passable thriller. No surprises, but the thrills are there.

Predictable action drama, made with some skill but too obvious in its plotting to create much suspense.

An effective thriller. Kevin Bacon's villain is nuanced and memorable.

I know this isn't a good movie, but something about it just keeps me watching each time it airs on TV. It's a predictable but solid comfort blanket film, always on TV when I was a teen and I enjoy it each time I see it. The gorgeous scenery, and Bacon chewing his way through it as the villain combined with Streep being a pretty good action hero (like she could do anything badly) make this a guilty pleasure.
