The Santa Clause 2
2002
Comedy, Family/Kids
1h 44m
Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) has been Santa Claus for the past eight years, and his loyal elves consider him the best Santa ever. But Santa's got problems (he's even mysteriously losing weight) and things quickly go south when he finds out that his son, Charlie, has landed on this year's "naughty" list. Desperate to help his son, Scott heads back home, leaving a substitute Claus to watch over things at the Pole... (imdb)

Kids want to see Santa pick up women; they want a Santa that slays in his sleigh. WE NEED TO SEE SANTA FUCK. "Green light".

I have a major soft spot for the first movie; this one doesn't have quite the same charm or as many laughs, but it's a harmless and mildly enjoyable Christmas movie. It's not until the third movie that the series gets truly awful.

Many of the elements that make the first film a genuinely festive movie are absent here, but there is something appealingly honest about the way that the robotic Santa dictator storyline (did I really just type that?) is realised. Eric Lloyd (as with the first film) is what really drags this film down, his soppiness is unbearable (he also can't act).

As holiday films go, this is funnier than your "Surviving Christmas" but not on the level of "Christmas Vacation"; it's harmless family fare that's goofier than the first, but still has charm to spare. (Side note: Watch for my friend Jamal Allen as the "quarterback elf", the lucky bastard -- I could've been an elf if I wanted to, dammit, I just didn't get the opportunity, and plus I don't have an AGENT, but I act. I act!!!)

Long awaited sequel isn't as good. The Santa Clause 2 is about as equal as the first. It's cute and has it's moments, but it's not that good.

Despite some of the mild hyperbole I'm reading in the user reviews here, I'd say it basically holds together as a predictable and corny but more or less competent follow up to the original. Yup, Santa gets up to more mischief. Oh, silly Santa!

This movie shouldn't have been made. Interesting premise of Santa's own child being on the naughty list. However, it failed to deliver. I'm not even going to try the third one.

Everything about this movie screams "bad sequel." However the emotional stakes and willingness to do something different with the story might just win you over. Tim Allen does some great work in this dual role. If nothing else Elizabeth Mitchell's wonderful performance makes the run time worth it.

Mistakes - 1) When Abby, an elf, is about to tell Santa that Charlie is on the naughty list, she says something about 'Brazilian cocoa beans'. As this line is heard, you can see that her mouth is moving completely differently from the words we hear. 2) The little girl elf pours Santa a mug of hot chocolate, but if you watch closely there is nothing in the mug when he drinks it.

Weak plot and poor dialog. Tim Allen can not save this movie from itself. Liliana Mumy was very cute. Some over the top aspects probably scare the children this movie is intended for. I disliked the reindeer, fake Santa, and other mythical characters, being stupid and unnecessary. The writers seem to have been left completely unchecked, writing a story that is unsatisfying and moronic. They could have made a beautiful and cute Christmas story instead of this nonsense?

This follow-up is anything but a classic. This movie fails in so many ways that I won't have enough characters in this review. Here are some good points. Some of the reindeer stuff was stupid but funny. I love seeing Aisha Tyler. The plot is good. The script is bad. The plot with the fake Santa is interesting but it doesn't feel rewarding when they finally foil him. Pushing Breslin as a lead type character dates this film. He isn't good. I hate how they changed Krumholtz character in this film.

The Santa Clause 2 isn't as bad as its reputation suggest, but the weak premise of a forced marriage and devious doppelganger don't help. The first act falls flat in both humour and plot. However, the film eventually picks up with the scenes at the park and school being surprisingly good. The action itself isn't great, neither is the concluding scene, but Mitchell is great, salvaging the film with every scene she's in. Weirdly the film makes for a decent RomCom.

An almost-success; props to the film-makers for devising a fresh story, rather than simply rehashing Part 1 – the rom-com elements work best, with Allen and Mitchell making for a charming couple; “Bad Santa” is a great idea (and Allen relishes playing it), but it never develops beyond its single joke, seeming more an excuse for an overextended (and unnecessary) action finale. Worth it for Allen, who is in great form in both guises, and a fine supporting cast who never play down to the material.

I understand the Hollywood logic of sequels being the mandatory instalment to introduce the love interest, but oh man there's zero chemistry, no rhyme nor reason for the Allen/Mitchell romance. Other than that, an okay Christmas kids film for the intended age demographic.
