Legendary all-stars of cinema bring to life the evolution of science-fiction and special effects films from the wild and funny days of B-movies to blockbusters that have captured the world's imagination. This is the story of the Sci-Fi Boys, who started out as kids making amateur movies inspired by Forrest J Ackerman's FAMOUS MONSTERS magazine and grew up to take Hollywood by storm, inventing the art and technology for filming anything the mind can dream (imdb)

The structure of this doc is so disjointed, w/ subjects being discussed almost haphazardly, w/ one leading to the next almost by free association, & its so overstuffed with the early VERY amateurish work of some of the geek world's biggest behind-the-scenes names that it's hard to imagine anyone other than the hardcore enjoying this. For them, (& for fans of Famous Monsters magazine), this should be an intermittently diverting history lesson on what inspired the men behind the blockbusters .

It's not really a full science fiction piece as much as a visual effects/monster documentary. Slow going in the middle where it exclusively shows clips from the amateur films of eventual directors/artists, but it is a good look at the world of stop motion, makeup, and the appeal of sci-fi. Not what I expected, but not something I regret watching.
