How To Train Your Sea Monster. Beautiful movie, but everything besides the visual is passable at best. Another entry into the storied canon of "[insert abstract concept] was the real monster all along" films.

A fun movie with good animation and a fine story.

It’s dressed in a great costume (strong and diverse character design, red beast excepting) and sticks its landing, but the trick itself isn’t very impressive (its storytelling feels passive, its beats unfocused). However, it’s another step towards enby pirate domination and its water animation is superb, so it’s not a bad watch.

Enjoyable adventure saga is a little too leisurely paced at times, (with the scenes between Jacob and Maisie marooned especially in need of a trim), but the animation is so beautifully rendered, and a lively voice cast so well deployed, that it almost doesn't matter; story leap to criticism of colonialism is perhaps a little too seriously minded to work in this context (especially in the superficial treatment it is given), but it's still an overall decent piece of escapist entertainment.

How to Train Your Sea Beast was quite entertaining and really on par with the film that it rips off of until it crashes and burns in the end. I shouldn't mind for a kids movie, but the conclusion made zero sense.

It's beautifully animated and I'm partial to the setting; but plot wise you'll see the "twist" coming from a mile away. It seems to always be the same for monster hunting movies. Also, the ending felt particularly childish, which sounds appropriate for a kid's movie, but good animations films manage to please adults as well as younger audiences, this one does not. If the writers had put as much efforts as the animators did, this would have been really good.

Watered-down (no pun intended) variant on How to Train Your Dragon. Aside from its paint-by-numbers story and plotting, the need for such a shallow pair of antagonists as a stand-in for government corruption and the wrongful perpetuation of a retrograde societal convention feels like an attempt to give itself more political credit than it deserves. A perfectly okay kids movie, but that’s the only watermark this clears.

38 where "38" is seeing it from (IMO) an adult perspective, the very young may be far more kind. Feeble, almost from the getgo, The plot sounds good but it's a generic, goodie two shoes, PC, boys own... err belay that, make it girls own, tale. You can throw all these labels at this thing. The animation is just passable overall (though I dislike this plasticy realistic style) with a few scenes being really well done. I'd call this a film for under 10's only.

The Animations are in part superb and in part very bad. The Dialogue is like the derivative of an already terribly cliche movie ("today is the day where we do what we do"). The Captain, Jacob and especially Maisie dont grew on my as characters at all. The cheaply hidden "Decolonize History"-Motive of the movie might be alright like this for kids but i think compared for some Pixar Movies which were genuinly working for adults too its a bit poorly paraphrased. Idk, not very strong overall.

The Sea Beast bears some resemblance to HTTYD but improves on certain aspects. The 1st act establishes the characters with rounded personalities while also allowing room for the audience to contemplate their actions. The animation is great with a distinct look that isn't exclusively cutesy. The water effects, camera angles & detailed city design all contribute to the world. The voice acting is good though the dialogue is a mixed bag. Interesting themes & fun action make it worth the watch.

A lot of reviews are comparing this to ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ and the similarity goes beyond the plot - the descreature design is clearly inspired by the earlier movie’s dragons. This could be overlooked if the sea beasts had more personality, and the perky orphan was more appealing. The idea of an alternative history in which unisex crews hunt sea monsters is a very promising one, and some of the ‘men at sea’ moments are nicely observed, while the salty score is pretty good.

Jacob Holland is just about the most unmemorable main lead an RNG machine could come up with. The guy’s so personably bankrupt and flat he’s giving papercuts to everyone else in the cast. The monster was the best character and she had no lines. The kid was cute. She could have worked better paired with someone more dynamically opposite to her than Jacob.

Half watched this the first time and thought it was too similar to How To Train Your Dragon. Paid more attention on the second watch and as a comparison this is far superior. So much more political, environmental and social depth and responsibility. Upped my rating!

A good 35 minutes too long, but easy watching for the most part. I liked the theme of - ‘an old book written unknown persons long dead, who did not witness the events they are writing about should not be taken as truth’. Such messages of reason are often avoided by movie studios.

Kim geliyor? Canavarlar.

“The Sea Beast” is a visually stunning film with a well-crafted world and compelling story. The animation style is gorgeous, especially the water effects and creature designs. The film's production design is also praiseworthy, with the ships and locations being meticulously detailed. The blend of fantasy and history in the screenplay is also notable, with the use of Maisie's storybook bringing back a classic storytelling trope and fleshing out the world of the film.

A pretty good but not necessarily spectacular animated movie. It's predictable to anyone who has seen a movie and has some really fun animation. The character of Jacob didn't do a ton for me, though. An entertaining diversion.

The animation is wonderful, the characters are charming and likable. But the theme has been done before and was somewhat expected. Not a bad film by any means.
