The top block-busting swashbuckler from a year crowded with pictures of the general type. Perhaps a bit too simple and contrived at heart for a film with a two hour run-time and intermission, but it's a pretty picture, and finds excuse enough for some attractive if not particularly eventful spectacle when it sets asea for parts exoticised. Really could have used something a bit more distinctive to make the drama or action stand out above the set dressing, though.

A very good adventure flick from Frank Lloyd. Might lack a little in the depths department as the action kind of just happens and one doesn't always get a good feel of the actors emotions or suspense. But it's a very entertaining movie with Wallace Beery bringing the comedy as Milton Sills' sidekick. Sills as the lead looks the part as the shamed lover wanting revenge from the people he once protected. It's clearly a movie that tries to be grand and give the movie go'ers value for money.

Ends up being a bit grandiose in appearance, but is ultimately shallow and boring. Its major fall back is the dramatic failure punctuating the decent action. If it were trimmed down quite a bit then we would have had a keeper.
