A beautifully shot if unremarkable family drama.

"Kormákur is fully content pimping his particular love/hate relationships with the beautiful/harsh landscapes of Iceland in as many different masochistic scenarios as possible." - Eric Henderson

This displayed another side of Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur who is mainly known for his action films outside his homeland. The film does give you a glimpse into Icelandic culture and way of life. It's also well made and acted, but I found all the characters unpleasant which made it a tough watch. That hasn't stopped me from enjoying a film before, but I felt this story could have used a sympathetic character or two. It was a big success in Iceland and well received elsewhere so YMMV.
