Still an enjoyable movie to watch, with a great cast (although I found Gere to be out of place here). Smith somehow stands out even more, I think it is because her storyline is one of (greater) importance in the movie. The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is very endearing and fun to watch. 60/100.

This sequel lacks the charm the first film had. Sure there are funnier moments in this one, but they all revolve around the side-plots. The main plot feels forced and at times is a little too clichéd. The character development that propelled first film was virtually non-existent. Overall, it's a decent film but undeniably suffers as a sequel.

Probably just about on a par with the first, but the jokes seem a little more telegraphed this time around, and it's all a bit too busy vs the languid pacing of Marigold #1. Still, difficult to truly dislike, and it's a thoroughly pleasant, heartwarming watch.

A slight step down in relevancy, the second trip to the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel simply isn't as enjoyable as the first. It's a funnier film, but it feels like it exists simply as a cash-grab, giving most if its characters little to do in hopes that just watching them makes it worth our time and money. If not for Maggie Smith, the movie wouldn't be particularly worthwhile at all. She kills it in every scene, though.

Unchallenging, entertaining cinema that lacks originality such that it becomes repetitive.

Not all of them step in the right direction, I should say at this point. Because speaking of intimacy, there's quite a lot of that going on here when you lump in the physical side. The story at times makes light of cheating and indiscretions, even joking about adultery. And few of those engaging in (offscreen) sex are actually married. (pluggedin.com)

Splendid veteran cast of Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Ronald Pickup and even Richard Gere! Lots of old greats, so they'd need a little youthful energy and who more energetic then Dev Patel who practically steals this from the old folks. A fine light drama which relies on being pleasant in exotic Indian locations. And it is pleasant....

I actually rated the first one a 7, but this was like a second-rate 50's sit-com before they'd even invented the term. It's embarrassing. Recognizing there was no hope, I left half-way through.

The character that has constantly complained about everything and everyone in two films: if there's one thing I can't stand it's self pity.

I'm amazed to find out the British have such an unquenchable libido at old age. Bloody amazing.

This hits enough of the notes of the first movie to be a decent movie, but it feels like a rehash of what has already been done and is not as funny the second time around.

Many venerate actors complimented by a cast of energetic and animated newcomers. It was nice to see the performances of Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Bill Nighy among others. Celia Imrie and Ronald Pickup were also good. I liked almost every role, except for some of the script concessions afforded Gere. The story was mostly charming, interesting and entertaining. The Indian music was well chosen as were the settings and venues.

Veteran actors carry this likable but aptly named movie. Sadly, there are WAY to many stories going on this time around, and it makes the movie feel bloated. If it could have cut some stories, then the movie would have benefited. If it focused on a few stories and expanded them more then it could have been better than the first one.

I was really looking forward to this since I loved the first movie, but I thought the characters, whom I thought were so charming in the first movie, all became really annoying in this one. I understand that after attaining what each character was lacking for happiness by the end of the first movie, they had to have something to complain about so that there was tension and a story to move forward. Still, I think the story could have been written in such a way that endeared us to them.

When such consummate actors as Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Bill Nighy and Penelope Wilton show up together in a movie, even a sequel as wobbly as this one, you'd be wise to just sit back and behold.

Didn't really need a sequel but I'm glad they did one because I've found his one actually funnier.
