The Secret Agent

Limp, deadingly dull 'thriller' is a remarkably spectacular failure, given a first-rate cast who should be able to make phone book readings compelling (though Williams in understated sinister mode provides the sole compelling, and genuinely unnerving performance). Murky, undefined motives for its characters, and a set design which favours cut-rate back-lots, are the final nails in the coffin.
