Memories of the Holland adaptation loom large; the first half does distinguish itself in terms of its production design, especially in the comically expansive Misselthwaite Manor, but the (interesting) CGI’d garden is wildly overdone – and the film pinballs from austere to over-the-top, especially performance-wise (Walters, in a rare case of underplaying, has surprisingly little fun with her role, especially compared to Smith in the earlier film). A respectable, but forgettable adaptation.

I liked it but it was a bit slow.

As a kid's movie, it can feel a bit like a modern-ish fairy tale with themes of trying to deal with grief. The images were made beautiful and the CGI is good, so perhaps for a young audience it can distract from the sometimes flat characters. For an adult, the comparison with previous adaptation or the source material can make so the pretty doesn't distract away as well.

Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic story of alienation, anger and illness gets a fresh adaptation from Utopia director Marc Munden In some ways its a story perfect for 2020 because it sees a group of traumatized people who dont get out much find solace in gardening and fresh air But in padding out the original story this version sometimes priorities spectacle over the book's clear focus on wounded kids finding a new lease of life and to that extent it doesn't always work as well as previous

Like the 1993 better. Significant plot points that were very different from the book.

This adaptation of The Secret Garden is perfectly serviceable, yet utterly forgettable. The plot is remains close to the novel's with a few unimpactful liberties, but the characters and themes seem to have lost some depth. While the cast is pretty good, the characters are a little one-note at times. This is particularly true for Egerickx's Mary, who captures entitled rich girl perfectly but fails to truly grow beyond. The CGI used for the garden is over-the-top, forsaking magical for laughable.

Story is only partly there (totally misses the part of re-building the garden and Colin playing in it while walking), and fails to draw you in. Characters seem one dimensional and I never really found myself caring about any of them. 1993 version is significantly better.

Yalnız kalan küçük 1 kızın hikayesi. Ailesi Hindistan'da ölünce, arkası güçlü dayısının evine gelen küçük kızın maceraları. Filmin ilk 30 dakikası tanışma faslı olarak geçiyor. Bir türlü neticeye varılmıyor. Fakat aile meselesi iyi anlatılmış. Aynı evde 3.kez çekilen film olacak. İngiltere'nin en meşhur evi. Filmin sonunda, bahçe gerçek ve herkes öğrenecek. Köpek kesin beni yıka diyordur.

The Secret Garden (2020) should have been a lot better than it was. Photographed to near perfection, yet the carefully framed scenes are stripped of life and energy. There is a sense of mystery that's supposed to drag you in, but it doesn't because of the sterile film making.
