The Secret Six

Packed with the established and the very up-and-coming (it landed Gable and Harlow their contracts, and Bellamy debuts). It's fun, as Marion is not remotely interested in building up any kind of tragedy or myth. No, Beery's Scorpio is a simple-minded, cowardly buffoon, and everyone knows it; he's just also likely to get you shot. There's violence, death, comedy, and 6 suits in masks with far less to do than you'd think. Also, some characters with no business "speaking gangster" do anyway.

MGM on Warner Bros territory. A violent mob drama with lots of killing starring Wallace Beery as the rising brute in town. And a damn fine cast of established and up and coming stars. Clark Gable & Jean Harlow falls in the latter category with Gable doing alright while Harlow still haven't found her flame and looks uncomfortable saying her lines. Lewis Stone gave this it's best performance as the crooked lawyer and the brains behind the gang. Story wise it's a mess and strangely unpolished.
