The Secrets We Keep

It's nice to see a really offensively bad movie once in a while. This movie does a disservice and injustice to its themes of trauma and the holocaust by serving up a completely unlikely kidnap story that manages to be extremely boring and repetitive and shows stunning misconceptions of its topics and human nature. It's unbelievable that some dialog made it to the final version and those bangers are the highlights of the movie

The story felt a bit familiar, but the setting was interesting and the main characters too. The husband's role/ position leaves one thinking, though it is also nice to see this approach and his reactions. Not the most thrills, it's a bit like half a short story, half a drama, but it is entertaining.

Fairly compelling thriller/drama with an unexpected ending.

Lets get the elephant out the room first ... the set-up for this film is VERY implausible. The chances of recognising someone after 15 years, from the back, by the way they whistle? Umm. Once that is out the way, the film is actually hard to fault. The leads are superb (Rapace and Messina particularly) and the story is a taut "breath hold" from the start to its unexpected finish. It explores retribution, loyalty, forgiveness and the desire to be heard and believed in a simple intelligent film.
