A disappointing movie - generally well shot with good effects, but let down terribly by pathetic acting and a plot line that struggled to fill the time and couldn't collect its loose ends.

Cheap-looking and completely charmless piece of cinematic shovelware.

Lacks the 'epic' feeling that it needs and moves at a crazy, hyperactive pace. I've definitely seen worse, but it's the kind of movie where most of the time you're making a mental checklist of what you'll do after it's over.

this movie adaptation turned a great book into absolute pap - poor character development, tonnes of plot inconsistencies and question marks all over the place, and a general feeling that CGI was being used too liberally to wallpaper all the cracks - and even then there wasn't enough action to salvage the show.

It was not our idea to go see this film. We don't talk to the person who suggested it anymore.

This would have been better if Christopher Eccleston's delivery hadn't been the worst of his career. Admittedly his script was awful, but he read it like an unsuspecting man in the street had been shoved in front of the camera. There were also lots of tired plot mechanisms and holes (like the 7th son of a 7th son thing, failing to explain what his father really knew, the appalling handling of the oh-so-soap-opera brothers twist, and Frances Conroy's accent) that also let it down in a big way.

The target audience for this movie is obviously 12 to 14 year old boys. Otherwise Alexander Ludwig would be a bad choice as lead. Amelia Warner is very beautiful. The plot is convoluted and bizarre. Time travel, special powers and other hokum. A few nice special effects. The problem is really the plot and script are pitiful and stupid. A very well made movie but sadly a story that can not be helped by special effects, good music, dramatic acting or action sequences.

Boring movie. I had no patience to see the end. It is not compared with current movies of fantasy.
