I hate to say it, but the car chase was a little underwhelming. I only orgasmed twice.

Honestly, a good car chase scene is worth a lot to me. I wouldn't even mind if the entire film is a car chase. Now, there are some caveats. It needs to be a car chase in a gritty 70s detective film. Well, actually, that's the only caveat.

The car chase is as good as the much more famous one in Bullitt.

Gritty 70's cop flick. Does what it tries to do well and has a great chase scene. As a whole it's not particularly special but it's effective and well made.

Roy Scheider gives Popeye and Dirty Harry a run for their money in rogue cop badassery. The story is uneccessary convoluted, but makes up for it with a car chase that would've made Bullitt proud.

The 70's had a plethora of high quality crime movies of every variety, and a good number of them aren't well remembered. This one is pretty entertaining, but justifiably overlooked for others.

Excellent 70s crime drama. Gritty with a great car chase scene and another good role for Scheider.

Strips the genre down to almost its barest of bones. Great car chase like everyone says.

Worth it just to see the great car chase staged by Bill Hickman, the man who gave you the car chases in The French Connection and Bullitt.

Few other films will do a better job of showing you the grittiness of NYC in the early 70's; watch it for that alone. But there's a decent plot and excellent acting too. Roy Scheider at his best.

The sole directorial work of Philip D'Antoni, a producer responsible for the much better-known crime thrillers The French Connection and Bullitt. Using the same stunt driver, The Seven-Ups includes a car chase that rivals the ones in the above mentioned films as one of the most gripping in cinema history. The NYPD plainclothes in this make Dirty Harry look prim and proper. The plot is confusing at first, but worth following; it's excellently written, and Roy Scheider is magnificent.

I'd seen this before, apparently, but didn't remember seeing it while watching it. It's a fairly generic solid gritty crime/action film from the '70s that works but doesn't add a ton to the genre other than a cool chase scene that is overshadowed by the ones in The French Connection and Bullitt. Fun but fairly run of the mill.

Scheider is solid as a leader of a renegade police outfit that stumbles into a plot of kidnapping mobsters. There is inventive snatch-and-grab in a car wash and a 20 minute care chase that is very good. Gritty in the right places while being pretty simple in its plot.
