The Show

The story of a love triangle involving unlikeable social outsiders is not overly interesting, but Browning keeps it moving along at a pleasing meter, and it's extremely well edited with a commendable use of dissolve. Barrymore is personified sleaze and Gilbert defies expectations of leading man status by playing a morally dubious yet charmingly predatory man.

Starts out exciting, funny and layered with a nice sense of macabre, devolves into conversation after conversation about silly love triangle stuff and thematically interesting if technically dull deception. Man, Lionel Barrymore plays a great creep, though.
