The Silence (2019)

The story of a family struggling to survive in a world terrorized by a deadly, primeval species who have bred for decades in the pitch darkness of a vast underground cave system, hunting only with their acute hearing. As the family seeks refuge in a remote haven where they can wait out the invasion, they start to wonder what kind of world will remain when they're ready to emerge.

Completely forgettable monster horror film led by Stanley Tucci, who is woefully out of place. While the film starts with promise, and has a handful of interesting situations the characters find themselves in, half an hour into the film you'll be rolling your eyes and checking your watch to see how much longer you have to sit through one of the most mundane monster movies ever made. Skip this in lieu of A Quiet Place, which has a similar premise but does it infinitely better.

Başka 1 yaratık filmi. Gizli 1 mağaradan, küçük Gremlin tarzı uçan yaratık yarasalar, sese karşı duyarlı olup yaşayan ne varsa götürüyorlar. 1 aile de yaşama savaşı veriyor. İyi 1 senaryo. Zorluklara karşı kaçmanın manasız olduğu anlatılmış. Filmin sonunda, arkası yarın. Gece uyurken horlama. Yaratıkları çağırma. ŞŞŞŞŞ.

This could have been better than "A Quiet Place", if only it didn't fizzle out like a pricked balloon. It all started well and interestingly it glued me on to its story up to 95% of the way. Then, without warning. it simply ended. Huh?! What happened? It seems like the director suddenly felt so dead tired and called it a day (or did he die?). I was left hanging and annoyed... in silence. MY SCORING: 99-96=Great; 95-90=Very good; 89-85=Good; 84-80=So-so; 79-70=Boring; Below 70=Forget it

I remember when I was working for a hotel management chain and Stanley Tucci's personal assistant called our Double Secret Platinum Club line and at the end of the call I told her how much I loved his work and The Silence was like .................................you douchebag. Anyway this dad-hot mess is at least more fun to watch play out than A QUIET PLACE. "Oops we just killed an old lady well let's walk-a thiswise". (I would have asked Krasinski's assistant to fart in his Fruit Loops.)

Evidently bad and derivative to the point we could not care less about what happens here -- but het, I'm not a A Quiet Place fan and expected this to be way worse.

Cloverfield impact aside (I have a soft spot for this type of movie), this is riddled with problems. There have to be enough guns (and gun nuts) in the US to handle this. They couldn't set this movie in Texas; the problem starts at 3am but it's handled by lunch. How does the apocalypse still have Facetime? Seems awfully quick to have established a child rape cult, don't you think Reverend? "Will they evolve?" Yes. That's how evolution works. Is she Katniss Everdeen now? So many questions.

From the imagery in the opening sequence and the fact that the apocalyptic threat is literally unearthed by fellow humans, one would think the movie would have something to say about climate change. But no, the premise is quickly brushed aside in favour of safe creature horror, and I guess the threat wasn't that bad after all since everything's fine in the end. The silence thing doesn't get utilized all that well either and remains a silly gimmick.

In which a few thousand ill-tempered bats wipe out the US within 72 hours. I don't want to complain too much about it being a ripoff of A Quiet Place - with thousands of Dracula movies, there should be room for two movies about echolocating monsters - but AQP made a very smart move in not showing the minutiae of how it all started, whereas The Silence does nothing but since it has no other ideas to bring to the table.

It is very similar to A Quiet Place narratively but a lot different in execution. Where A Quiet Place decided to focus on moments through out dealing with the creatures and how people adapted to new life. The Silence focused on the mere struggle to understand what was even happening and the dangers these people were facing. It is very simple and all the characters are throwaways. Minus the creepy battle in the thunderstorm this film is just too conventional for it be groundbreaking in any way.

This was excellent. Character-focused, intelligent decisions, an optimistic ending, and all-in-all, just a delight.

The first half was interesting, but the second half was atrocious. The abrupt ending really cut off the story in the worst way possible. I don't recommend at all.

How lame netflix, copying A Quiet Place's original script a year after it was released? After you already copied it with birdbox? what an unoriginal and boring plot. Horrific screeching was a terricle choice to convey the deaf, how inappropriate the sound design is. Bats? A cave of bats is a bad way to create an apocalypse. what do they do? It's not echolocation they just can perfectly see what's making noise? bad movie. "I know how to live in silence. We all do." ughhhhhhhhhh blehhhh ralphhh

I just found it dull, that's my main complaint. I don't know if a world without A Quiet Place would have changed the way I approached it (probably) but there just wasn't anything here outside of a couple sacrifices which had sufficient emotional oomph. Some hokey dialogue/acting, a boringly slow pace, unexplored plot points/character traits, an unsatisfying ending. This isn't a complete disaster, per se, it's just not even decent and definitely not worth watching.

From the writers that brought us "Titanic 2" and "Mega Python Vs. Gatoroid" we have this new abomination of storytelling. It has the characterization of a wet paper towel mixed with the dialogue that would be lame for a parody. The only good character is the wood-chipper. Netflix owe an apology to the human race.
