In this, the first Matt Helm movie, we see Matt Helm coaxed out of semi-retirement by an attractive ex-partner. It seems that the evil Big O organization has a nefarious plan called "Operation: Fallout." If this plan comes to fruition, Big O will explode an atomic bomb over Alamagordo, NM, and start WWIII. Only Matt Helm can stop them. (imdb)

More of a Columbo type to Bond's Perry Mason, Matt Helm kisses just about every lady on screen and probably a few that weren't. There are some good lines and Dino's songs are narrative driven which makes them that much more ridiculous. When he enters his house to find a strange woman wearing nothing but one of his shirts, his response to her immediate come on is, "Don't you think we should be introduced first?" She replies "You're Matt Helm," and he says, "Good enough for me," and they kiss.

Viewed April 28, 2021. A textbook example of mid-60s cool, mixing elaborate hi-tech sets, an eye-popping color palette, pruient humor and a couple of meta jokes about Martin being more interested in women than espionage (I also like when he hears Frank Sinatra on the radio and switches the station). None of these elements really fit together as a complete package, but there is a certain admirable quality in just how shamelessly the movie plays up the genre's basest qualities.

An uneven film that can't decide whether it wants to be a James Bond spy flick or a leering, low-brow sex comedy. On the plus side, you get to see a lot of '60s sex-kittens at the height of their allure.

Makes the dopiest Bond film look like peak Le Carre, but this plotless and silly spy spoof is still very entertaining, thanks to imaginative set-design (love the bed/hot tub) and charismatic work from Martin, plus an attractive array of 60s... talent. Some inevitable anti-PC moments detract, and the film's stance on drinking behind the wheel is jaw dropping, but it's all still great fun.
