The Sin of Madelon Claudet

An attempt at a overly melodramatic story about a mother who secretly does anything to help her son grow up to be a successful man while she herself keeps falling in bad luck. The problem with the emotional aspect of this film is that the emotion isn't really felt. Not through Helen Hayes anyway. Hayes just looks like cardboard display of a sorry lady without any soul shining through. And she gets an Oscar for it! Thankfully the rest of the cast does show the warmth Hayes couldn't.
