The clock strikes midnight, the bats fly from the belfry, a dog howls at the full moon, and two black cats fight in the cemetery: a perfect time for four skeletons to come out and dance a bit. (imdb)

To think that this is what awaits when flesh and mind have decomposed; eternity not at rest but in a gruesome parody of leisure.

The only Silly Symphony I actually remember, its kinda goofy, but for 1929 this was probably some wicked shit.

This Dance Macabre has a few funny ideas and atmospheric visuals, but truth be told, as far as the dancing dead goes, you'd be better off with 'The Seventh Seal' or perhaps even 'Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans'.

I think I prefer the Skeleton Dance in "Monkey Island 2", music and lyrics. But this is a good dance too.

Silly Symphonies! I remember first seeing a clip from this on one of the Disney Halloween specials in the '80's. I then found it and watch the whole thing and it was awesome. ^_^

Pretty fun with good but simple animation, especially the second half.

Possibly the first ever successful blend of humor and horror. Probably the best of the Disney "Silly Symphonies", too

Silly Symphonies were the musical animated short concept Stalling first pitched to Disney before running off to do the same for Warner as Loony Tunes/Merry Melodies within a year or two (the conceptual feedback to the early Mickey shorts is also hard to miss). This first installment is one of the most famous, and it's genuinely the most stylish thing Disney had made up to this point.

Like nearly all the early Disney shorts, this is pretty infantile. But even so, it's somewhat mesmerizing and captivating. Great animation, great music, and it makes for a pretty good mix. Shold've been without the first minute or so though.

This creeped the hell out of me as a kid, and I love that tune.

There doesn't even seem to be a gag here save the titular one, which becomes boring almost immediately.

Silly, but a landmark of animation.
