If you wanted to learn how to do a Poitier this would be a good one to nail the nuances. Obviously lacks any real tension but still two great performances

Poitier carries this thing. A precursor to the underrated and better film, Phone Booth.

This is right up my alley, both stylistically and thematically. Bancroft and Poitier are both very charismatic, and while they can go a little overboard they mostly keep it to a hot simmer without boiling over. Their ability to match each other, and the film's editing that balances their perspectives, helps this be something special, as we can connect and sympathize with both of their perspectives so that even as events make us a bit frustrated with one or the other it never turns into judgment.

A suspenseful suicide-hotline movie with fine performances be Poitier (the crisis volunteer) and Bancroft (the woman who wants to die).

listining to anne bancroft on the phone for more than an hour got to be a little annoying, but other than that a solid flick, good acting, better writing, decent directing.

Pretty impressive--especially when you consider that it's basically a two-hour phone call.
