The Slipper and the Rose: The Story of Cinderella

Painfully dull, uneventful, uncreative, and out of fashion.

Most of the songs are grating, and the characters are bland as paste. There are a few funny scenes and a touching moment near the end that can't completely save this.

Five days into social distancing and I watched an obscure musical version of Cinderella on YouTube. Liked it too. This is what happens when you take the fairy tale and give everybody personalities and add a smidgen of realpolitik to the plot. My favourite was the Chamberlain, made to perform a task he clearly hated. It did get a bit long in places and the musical numbers were by and large forgettable, but it was not two hours I regret spending.

With so many other Cinderella renditions this falls flat but it's not bad
