In some ways this anticipates the work Tsangari and her countryman and sometimes collaborator Yorgos Lanthimos would later gain attention for, particularly in the emphasis on stylized physicality, but even more so it feels like one of the definitive texts of "rootless cinema". Some sequences work better than others, but there are more ideas in ten minutes of this than some filmmakers manage their in entire careers, where absurdist slapstick rubs shoulders with Marker-esque poetic ruminations.
