More lazy studio product, right down to the poster, where the characters have simply been copy-pasted from the previous poster. (It's true, go look!)

Begins with Smurfette being cast out of the compound. She reconnects with her real family and experiences a few days of true happiness before falling into Gargamel's schemes (a cycle sadly common to victims of traumatic abuse). The movie ends on a downbeat note when Papa Smurf re-initiates Smurfette into the commune, along with her whole family. Probably the bleakest and hard-to-watch examination of the human condition and the victim/abuser cycle since Requiem for a Dream.

Same song second verse is, like its predecessor, fairly easy to take and benefits from Azaria's blatant (but entertaining) scenery chewing and the genial likability of the Smurfs themselves, though the action/slapstick sequences in the middle and end are a little painfully noisy and hectic at times. Some unnecessary plot convolutions detract (was it really necessary to make Gleeson Harris' *step*-father?). Bouncy and entertaining enough not to be a trial to older audience members!

Worth it for the scene where a duck turns into Brendan Gleeson.

I was worried, having not seen the first Smurfs movie, that I would be lost in this film. But fret not! The Smurfs 2 totally stands on its own, with no required preknowledge. You too can enjoy this film without a need to track down its predecessor in order to learn anything. Also, I only just realized, but Papa Smurf never wears sunglasses in the movie like he does on the poster. I feel betrayed by this marketing material.

closer to a generic crappy kid's animated than to the hellish mess the first movie was. There were more efforts at trying to make the characters relevant instead of having them run head first into blenders like they did in the first. It is still a bad movie, but this time I guess it can be better enjoyed by kids above 6 years old. It remains brainless in the bad sense of the word

Hey. Hank Azaria as Gargamel is reason enough to watch it.

It was actually a little better than I thought but I don't recommend it except for young children who loved the slapstick. Gargamel has got to be the dumbest villain ever. The narcissistic (surprisingly, they actually used that word in the show) Vanity Smurf was interesting, and was one of the few humorous offerings for adults.

Get ready to get naughty is the tagline for the film... it only goes downhill from there...

I actually found this one to be pretty enjoyable. Liked the jokes, the new characters and was fond of Hackus!

This sequel doesnt have the same charm as its predecessor. The storyline is incredibly rushed and alot of the gags just dont hit the mark. Alot of animation movies manage to include moments which both adults and kids can enjoy but this one is 100% targetting kids. There is alot here for them to enjoy but I dont think they will understand the over complicated plot. It was simplicity of the first film which made it more enjoyable. Hank Azaria is again very good casting as the antagonist Gargamel.

-Yenilenen hiç bir şey eski tadını vermese de çocukluğa götüren güzel bir film. 2011 yapımı ilk filmden daha keyifli. (08.08.2013 @Avşar Sineması, Optimum / w, İrem)

Look, guys, it's the new SMURFS movie! Bigger! Meaner! Uglier! Angstier! More soul-deadening! And with twice the daddy issues! Now my kids absolutely have to behave and keep their mouths shut when I drag them to ELYSIUM in a couple weeks...

The Smurfs 2 is an improvement on the first film, but that doesn't make it good. Most of the characters are still annoying, but at least this time the screenwriters seem to be torturing the audience on purpose. Gleeson's involvement and the Paris setting indicate EU funding, but the latter is inconsequential to the plot. Watchable, but just.

Not as enjoyable as the first but Azaria really hams it up this time around and is the source of most of the fun here.

But if crude behavior cheerfully accumulated on top of nice messages in the first movie, the opposite feels true in the second. The Smurfs 2 piles up nice messages on top of some crude behavior, offering strong and, at times, surprisingly moving ruminations on the meaning of family. It tells us that Smurfs love one another unconditionally--and that we should too. (pluggedin.com)

Two conflicting morals are present in this film: 1. Grouchy smurf decides not to be grouchy any more, and ultimately fails. The film tells us that you cannot be who you are not , and it's better for you and everyone if you be who you are. 2. The Naughties, created by Gargamel and who are intrinsically naughty decide to no longer be naughty and their life becomes better because of it. So what are we to do? Strive to change or remain true to our nature? TELL ME! (Gargamel still makes m

It was fine as a family-time diversion. Not nearly as charming as Smurfs of my youth, but Gargamel made up for the lack of personality they gave the blue ones.
