Long running series detective Harry Hole's first adaptation is not unlike Matt Scudder's sporadic two adaptations. We are given a story from the middle of a series, with little backstory and little determination from the filmmakers to achieve success. The movie itself isn't as bad as others would like you to believe, but it deserved a more robust introduction, or more aptly, to start with the first book. It's a little slow, a little contrived, but it's also engaging and relatively entertaining.

Bad, but perhaps not entirely as singularly horrible as I had been led to believe. That being said, 'Ice Cream Man' (1995), in which Clint Howard murders people and uses their heads as scoops in a giant cone, is - obviously - by far the better choice.

I think the real mystery of the movie was Val Kilmer's voice.

I enjoyed it as a thriller until it burned out The Devil's Own style (why can you FEEL a troubled production on screen?). Kept waiting for a Shannon Elizabeth shower scene that never came. For some reason Val Kilmer's voice was replaced by the baby from American Sniper.

It seems incomprehensible that a movie with this pedigree (author, actors, director) would turn out this horrible, yet here we are.

It is just too boring to have any fun with. Taken a different way, it could have been a funny parody of these self-serious crime movies. Or, you know, it could have been good and been a film to rival TGWTDT. As it stands, The Snowman is a gravely dull movie that never once engages the audience. When you're halfway through and the theater exit door looks more attractive than sticking with it to the end just for the satisfaction of learning who did it, you know you've got a dud on your hands.

NOooo! Used most generic/filmic of riveting, complex series (#7) & still F*#^ up. Pls, know only got $ @ last min -> V rushed shoot (forgot 2 film 15% script!) & tried save in edit -> incoherent mess + WHY use Val K? Pls, pls read Nesbo's novels (Esp. Redbreast & next 4). Hope 1day 4 reboot with Bettany or new tall lean pale actor. We & series deserved WAY better. Author, actors, director = SO much wasted talent. Know book -> weep 2 see bits of might've been. Not know book -> err..what, why..?

Writers destroyed everything at the ending part and alfredson is just capturing the acts in sometimes stylish way and nothing more than that ! There was times , i had doubt that did alfredson direct this movie , really ?!

I was so glad to see it was a mystery instead of an actual horror movie and went to see it. That might have made it something of an unexpectedly good show for me.

The novel by Jo Nesbø sounds like interesting thriller though I haven't read it. Tomas Alfredson lacked with coherence with this one. The result was far away from Let the Right One in.The city house of Oslo and Vigeland Sculpture Park near by were nice to see again. They were good locations for the story.

The Snowman is an okay thriller based on the novel of the same name by Jo Nesbø. It's confusing at times and leaves you with the feeling that something was skipped over or edited out, but this is the seventh in the Harry Hole series and one assumes that much has happened to poor Harry before this point in his story... Undoubtedly enjoyable (and probably makes more sense) to fans of the series. Aside from that, there's some beautiful architecture and scenery, and there's lots of snow (which is

Well, I was "high" and that is may be why I enjoyed this movie so much looking for hidden messages behind the story actually - it was full of funny & scary moments. Acting was perfect and actors looked like they have found way how to slow aging actually. I feel that this is a long commercial on life in Norway and the fact that fresh air and dry cold air in Norway have radical influence on your aging and relationships. So, if you want to live "forever young", move to Norway :) LOL

Honestly, it wasn’t awful. The large abundance of uninteresting characters led to some dull moments, and the ending was horribly anti-climatic. On the other hand, I wasn’t ever truly bored, with it keeping my attention most of the time, and it was pretty well shot with some creative scenes here and there. If free, there are worse things out there.

It's hard to criticise "The Snowman" on the same level as other notable Hollywood disasters of recent years, due entirely to the factors in play that led it to become so mind-bogglingly imcomprehenisble to begin with.15% of the film wasn't shot, and as such, nothing seems to quite add up. One moment, Fassbender will be strolling the streets forlornly, the next, he'll be passed out in an alley. It's a detective story without a compelling lead, and a mystery that holds none. A lost opportunity.

I think it is Alfredson's school project. He is trying to make some nostalghia etc. In any case, it is a bad joke. Not mine, his :)

I haven't read the book on which this was based but I feel they probably could have done a much better job of it. Pretty messy overall and generally just lacking cohesion. The editing in places is also pretty bad with various sync and dubbing issues. There were a few good moments but it left me fairly cold.

Attempts to be mysterious and thrilling did little more than make it confusing, tedious and boring. Great music. The acting performances was reasonably good. The story and the way it was told is a rotten disaster. It was likely destroyed in editing, because the whole is nowhere near the sum of its parts.

Belli ki filmin pre produksyonu sirasinda ise "the girl eith the dragon tattoo" parolasiyla cikilmis fakat ozellikle diyalog ve karakter interaksyonlariyla film daha coo "the room" havasi veriyor. Ses tasarimi ve editing neredeyse amator seviyede. Beltrami'nin muzigi filmi izlenebilir kilan tek sey.

Norway is pretty in the snow. That's all you'll get from this almost unwatchable mess that fails in every other department. A novel adaptation that's been hacked up so much for screen it's practically unintelligible: the atrocious directing/editing job making it simultaneously confusing yet exceedingly boring to follow, with performances ranging from awful (Ferguson) to bizarre (Kilmer) to stiff (everyone else). The missus loved the book and she hated this even more than I did.

The movie is just kinda boring the whole way through and with an actor like Fassbender leading the way the opposite was expected. It fell apart due to scripting issues and editing. It just got away from itself and became more of an ad for Norway during the winter time with no real urgency to the plot. I felt so disconnected from the happenings of the characters and the "twist" of whodunnit just sort became clear during of the many scenes of just drawn out commuting. See you never Harry Hole.

What happened here? Alfredson had a flawless track record and Nesbö's twisty nordic noir should have been great fit for him. The end result is a confusing mess where all the changes made were for the worse; Harry Hole's edge and alcoholism was been cut to minimum, plot threads do not make any sense and characters come and go without any function. Still, if you are not familiar with the source material or the film maker, you might enjoy this in a Nordic Noir TV series way. At least it looks nice

Agonizing "Wallander"-style emo built around a simple mystery and the dysfunction of its protagonist. None of the characters did anything but emote pointlessly, and no one had any purpose or integrity. The ending was a gimmick. Filmed in English, it feels completely hollow, and despite the cool method the bad guy uses to dispatch victims, the story did not hold together enough to avoid unintentional unconsciousness.

Not worthy of the hate it got in 2017, nor the praise it's getting on Netflix now. It could have worked better as a series, with more time to flesh out the characters and the story. You'd never know Schoonmaker was the legend she is based on this film's editing because the movie can never decide where its focus should be. There's no overall consistency in tone, music cues are off, too few arcs are concluded well or at all, and the bleakness of the movie wears on you over time.

I hated the pacing of "The Snowman". I can't put my finger on it, but the tempo was like an irregular heartbeat. [Spoilers] I enjoyed the beginning of movie, it set up the plot superbly. The ending was rushed and disconnected, without properly explaining the killer's obsession with Michael Fassbender's character.
